Well, well, well...you'll never guess what followed us home today!

We had no idea we would be getting a third trailer - at least not now! But we brought home a 1946 Curtis Wright Model 2 today! We had seen this trailer and met the owner at the 2004 RMVAC Rally. Then ran into them at a local restaurant a couple of years ago and happened to slip them a business card & mention if they ever decided to sell it, to call us first. Well, lo & behold we got "the call" yesterday...today it followed us home! It's #5656 (the one written about in Fred's Spring 2008 Airstream Life article). It needs some work (of course!) but this will be a great new project. Here's some pics to get started ~

I think Mr.InsideOut was jealous of my "dollhouse" Scotty and he wanted a project of his own...so let the fun begin!

Here's some more pics...mostly from the 2004 RMVAC Rally - but nothing has changed, it's been in storage since then!

It looks like a great vintage find. I hope you put it to good use. It will have to compete with your time for usage with the other trailers in your collection. I could not see if there was a place to attach a vintage awning. I am sure you will be able to figure that out or find a place in the TV for a Easy-UP.

Great find. Looks good behind the Suburban. Hope to see it at a rally. Think DenCo would allow it?

Indeed. There are so few of these that are known to still exist - it'll be a rewarding challenge to bring this one back to life!

Well, if nothing else we will have a rally specific trailers for each of our clubs events - the '56 Safari for WBCCI, the '64 Scotty for Sisters on the Fly and the '46 Model 2 for Tin Can Tourists.

Yeah, we will figure something out - haven't had a chance yet to see if there is evidence of an awning rail or connectors of any sort yet. I doubt we will go the Easy-Up route though - it just wouldn't look right IMO.

I know!. ! really like the way the little overhangs on the front & back are expressed on both the trailer & truck...they do look nice together ~

Ab-so-lutely! Although, without a toilet or tanks, it'll only be able to make rare appearances where at least some facilities are provided.

We will probably add a small fresh water tank and a porta-potty, but it is not going to be a true boondocker - that's for sure.

By what is documented online, there only a very few these that remain on the road - maybe, seven are known to date. I've been able to track down 5 other VIN numbers so far - with only a handful around and very little information in any archives it'll be pretty easy to keep track of them.

As far as I can tell so far, with our VIN# being 5656 - it is the "youngest" one around. It appears the VIN's may have started around #5000 - but the Model 2 is primarily a wood/masonite trailer - so they are not nearly as time enduring as the Model 5's or Airstreams...and they were only made one year.

Not bad. I doubt it will ned to be de-constructed to the same level as our more recent projects.

Good memory! Yes, he is an architect & I am an interior designer - InsideOut Design was our former business name.

True. It doesn't hurt that we are active members of a very forward-thinking (or backwards?), vintage friendly Unit. It will definitely be celebrated at WBCCI & VAC Rallies.

Yeah, who knows...someday we may have to get another tow vehicle so we can take all our toys out to play together!

So we have a name...Honua. It means land turtle in Hawaiian. The interior scheme will be - you guessed it, vintage hawaiian surf oriented.

Oh yeah! We've been afflicted with that disease for quite some time now. We had two Airstreams for a number of years and didn't make it a full year from selling our other AS before getting these two! The difference is, Mr.InsideOut doesn't like to have duplicates (i.e. two Airstreams)...so now we don't! They are each quite different ~

Speaking of...how is the search going for yours Anna?

Shari,

Given how small Edgewater is, you may not be able to have more trailers or the reflections in the aluminum will light up the whole town.

Good find and so easy to acquire.
