Gas Range Vent Fan Very Weak

I have a 2013 27' FB Eddie Bauer with a Baraldi vent hood over the gas range. Upon triggering the fan switch a noise appropriate to a vent fan running ensues; however, the fan does not seem to draw. Yes, I have unlocked the exterior vent, but the non-existent airflow does not even cause the exterior flap to budge. It does pop-out for a moment when the AS exterior door is closed, so there is no apparent air obstruction.
- is the fan just that weak, or is there something wrong here?

It seems to me that in the past 6 months or so there was another case similar to this one. I did some searching, but could not find it.

Does anyone out there remember or could do a search to see if I missed it?

What I need to know is whether other users have noted a verrrrry slow running fan. It appears to me that this very recently purchased AS has a defective fan motor. The motor makes a significant noise, but spins up the fan very slowly and never reaches a speed that would push sufficient air to open the exterior flap.
- Does your pull well? If so, then I need to order a new fan motor. If the Baraldi is just an absolutely inadequate item, then I need to find a different hood.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff McClure

In our 2012 27FB Flying Cloud it works just fine - plenty of draw to pull steam and smoke out of the trailer.

The Baraldi I retrofitted (not exactly the same as the one Airstream sells) in my Safari works fine. Remove the filter and, with the fan stopped, hold the blades and turn it on. If it sounds like it is running, maybe there is a loose set screw on the blades.

Thanks to all. I resolved the problem by removing the fan housing, removing the fan, and finally removing the electric motor completely. At each step I activated the motor and it made a sound like an electric motor straining, but with very little speed output. Once I completely removed the motor from the housings and disconnected the leads. I spun the motor manually and heard something "click". I inverted the motor, tapped it with a wrench and out fell a metal shaving. When I activated it again it ran like a top. I reassembled the entire thing, reinstalled it in the vent hood, and "presto!" I now have a fully functioning vent fan.
- Addendum: If you do this, be sure and have a set of various sized zip ties to reassemble. The wires are held out of the squirrel-cage fan with two small and one medium sized zip ties.

The same thing happened to my 2014 Flying Cloud. I had it replaced under warranty, they agreed it was very weak. Unfortunately your may be out of warranty.
