Weak Stove Hood Fan

I think I've got a bad stove hood fan. Either that or it's normally really loud and does not draw much, if any air. This is a two month old AS now and I swear it worked during our walk through just can't think of why it would fail. I can take off the metal filter and put my hand over the intake without affecting any air flow it seems. My dealer is all of a 2 hr drive for me and I've already brought it back once. Any feedback appreciated!

Check to see if the flapper on the outside is opening when the fan is on.

Have you unclipped the outer flap clamps? They are just up inside the exterior exhaust opening, and must be unclipped so the flap will open. You do this from the outside. They are there to keep the flap from opening in high winds or clattering on a windy day.

Mine moves air like crazy.

I did unclip those after remembering they existed. Even with them off the fan does not move enough air to force the flapper door open. Or to move at all.

Thumbs up

After replacing the cheep plastic with stainless I noticed an increase in noise and loss of blow...a wooden clothespin solved it.
Nice feature, it has an automatic release...it will blow off in the wind if you forget to remove it.

That is MUCH nicer than that plastic piece of junk they put in there. Is it just plug and play? Errr, parts off, parts on?

Only guessing now, if it is not the flapper either the fan is turning backwards (like reversed polarity) or the fan blades themselves are broken/missing/not turning somehow. Can you see up into the fan when the filter is removed? That is see the blades turning and so on.

As I noted, the one in my 2014 FC 20 blows a lot of air, and holds the flapper open just fine.

Hmmm... I'll look up in there with a flashlight. I could see the intake grate but couldn't see in there where a fan would be. It's definitely malfunctioning somehow. Like the blades are stuck and the motor unit just runs.

I got ours 8 years ago from Roger Williams AS in DFW, no longer available, so Airstream can charge whatever they want

Yes, easy install, just seal well, I used 3m 5200., good for just about everything AS.

I think i paid around 80-90 bucks.

Yep, fan is spinning. It looks like more of an impeller than a fan though and it doesn't seem like there is much force behind it. Going to call the dealer and see what they say.

Warranty issue.. warranty fix. It might be power supply to the fan motor.. if not full voltage under load, might be a faulty breaker or loose wire connection... and that is definitely something for the warranty trolls to fix.

I can't help but feel like I'm doing something wrong but I think it's a bad motor. It worked at delivery. Maybe the cold has gotten to it... ? My dealer is 2 hours away so I can put it on the list to be addressed some other time.

You probably aren't. Did you unlock the vent tabs on the outside. It should not keep it from running.

Ours worked at the dealer walk thru, but last week it started a few seconds then started making all different sounds, and no air movement.

The dealer ordered me a new one. Said it will be in 7-10 days. Am glad it broke now and not in the middle of a trip somewhere in warmer weather.

Well, the dealer ordered a new fan motor, installed and everything is fixed. The dealer ordered the new motor and it was installed 9 days after they ordered it. I thought that was good turn around.
