Winter rally in Goliad

We had a unit rally at Goliad State Park in Goliad, Texas Feb 8-12. This is one of the perks that living in Texas provides. we use our Airstreams 12 months. We were in the group camping area which is a big asphalt pad with back-in water and electric sites. Plenty of room between sites. The other side of the park has full hookups.

The weather varied from tee shirt on the best afternoon to jackets once the sun started down. Lows of about 40 at night.

Once of the park staff brought her children by with their pet show goats.

A highlight was a tour of the mission which was restored by the CCC in the 1930s. A couple of miles away was the Presidio and the monument to the Goliad massacre where more were killed than at the Alamo.

This was an amazingly good time. I even had time to make some repairs to my awning while we were there. Spent a little money at Market days in town and man oh man did we eat good. Great hosts and good times. We made a tactical error that I will share. We opted for full hookups which meant we were not with the group but up instead we were up in the campground itself. It is beautiful there but we missed out a lot of camaraderie that only comes from being in the pack. Will not make that
mistake again!

that the staff at Goliad State Park are simply outstanding. They responded immediately to any problems with the sites. Our tour of the mission was simply great; our guide really made the history of the mission come alive.

We invited the staff to our pot luck dinner Thursday evening and received a nice thank-you note and a book on Texas rivers. We decided to set the book aside for our Xmas charity auction. When we cleaned up the meeting room, we had 3 boxes of cookies. We usually split leftovers among the rally hosts. Instead, we left them with a note for the park staff.
