Anticipation
Folks,
We are in extreme anticipation of Meteor Crater.
Do I detect a fly by from Kevbo?
We'll depart Tempe Friday a little after 3:00PM... 5:30-6:00 arrival is okay?
Is there a Saturday pot luck? Any suggestions? main course, desert etc?

Kevin,
I'm quite confident we'll see you around. After all, you cast a long, long shadow.

There is definately a pot luck in the works for Saturday. Noit sure what I'll be bringing for it though. I need to get that figured out but am leaning on bringing something done up on the grill. We should have folks post what they're bringing so we don't end up with all side dishes and no desserts. We can't have that!!

Oh, almost forgot. Your arrival time should be fine. I took Friday off so I'll be heading up the hill in the morning. Any word on your Argosy friends joining us?

Would a cuisine theme be in order?

I wonder if it might be helpful to have pot luck based on some cuisine like Italian, Mexican, American comfort, end-of-summer-barbeque, etc. In that way, our stomachs might not get too confused. Desserts, IMHO, are also a cuisine.

potluck
Donna & I and our guests (potential joiners another 24' Argosy) Greg and Judy can fill in the gaps. Donna likes to cook so once we see what folks are planning we can propose some options.
The rally still looks like about ten campers?

If your friends are coming, then there will be eight camping units. MelloMike had to cancel and so did Harry earlier. We'll miss them and we'll hopefully see them at either the Balloon Rally or at Deadhorse II in February.

We should be headed up the hill around noon on Friday. I was thinking of making some cherry cobler (dutch oven) with some ice cream for the pot luck. We will bring the M-Ball for a running Happy Hour and the fire dancer for a campfire. I don't think this park allows real fires.....

Hey, that's about the time I was heading up. You're right about not being able to have fires. Looking forward to seeing a Fire Dancer in action.

Pot Luck our part
We'll be bringing a mess of chili braised pork ribs. We brought them to the Deadhorse rally last year. And considering the fact that we won't be having a camp fire, it would seem that a pot of cowboy beans won't endanger the area. Donna will probably be bringing some desert kind of stuff.
Judy and Greg will be bringing something but we may wait on that to see if there are any known gaps in the menu.

At long last, we are back in the West where the sky is bigger, bluer, and a whole lot drier. We left Jackson Center on Saturday morning. After several days of hard driving, we arrived in Santa Fe this afternoon. Now we get to see the sights for a few days before pointing West again. With luck and the benefit of the time zone change, we should get to Meteor by 4pm on Friday. Looking forward to reconnecting. Now that AZ will be our new home, I hope we don't wear out our welcome with too many questions. It's just that we have so much to learn and so little time to do it. We'd like to contract for construction as soon as possible, but we can't make changes after the contract is signed. All opinions and advise is more than welcome. See y'all.

Mr. Fly,
We just returned from a stay in the High Sierra near Bridgeport, CA..temp 40 at night! Considered running over to the rally for the weekend before coming home until we ran into traffic and heat @ China Lake and south. We will miss you all.
Your cobler sounds great, but..."We'll be bringing a mess of chili braised pork ribs" (flitzwhopper) is real tempting...hope to test them again at Dead Horse II.
Your friends,
John and Joan

John,
Jan is very disapointed that you will not be at this rally. We plan to leave in 2 hours, but will most likely pull out a little late. If you leave right now, we will still get there long before you!
We are really looking foward to seeing you both at D2.

Mr. and Mrs. Sky ~
We will miss you both and look forward to seeing you at DH2. I'll be leaving as soon as I get off a conference call from work.

how was the park?
We are thinking about staying there on the way home from the balloon rally.

Its a great park. Medium sized trees, nice showers and laundry. The susnsets and sinrises were fantastic along with the distant sounds of the BNSF railroads. I plan on going back one day.
Pictures of the rally to follow.

The only bad part was when your neighbor waits untill the rain is poaring down to roll up his awning and you go out to help

The second bad part is when you find out your grey tank is full when its also pouring down buckets right after you've gone inside after helping your grateful neighbor with his awning.

This was a great Rally! We had seven trailers and 11 dogs. The RV Park was very nice with full hookups and clean showers. On Saturday we all headed for the crater which is just down the road 5 miles from the park. If you have not seen Meteor Crater it is really BIG. Many of us made the short drive to Winslow, just to be standing on the corner!
