Third Annual Estancia Pumkin Chunkin Rally

Pumkin Chunkin (officially known as the Estancia Pumpkinfest) is the event of the year in the small New Mexico town of Estancia. The first 2 years for this rally were a great success. Starting Friday we will set up camp at the Torrance County Fairgrounds. Saturday morning those who want can decorate their rigs and parade through town among the fire engines, vintage cars, horses, and other floats and groups. If you don't particularly care for being in the parade you can walk from camp to watch the parade. The Pumkins are chunked by various chunkers ranging from slingshot contraptions, trebuchets, to giant semi trailer sized cannons. Saturday evening there will be a dinner at a local restaurant. Pot luck breakfast Sunday morning. If you want to explore the area there are historical towns, Pueblo ruins and National Forest. Estancia is just a short jog from Albuquerque or Santa Fe.

• The $25 fee covers camping at the fairgrounds. Extra $ will be applied towards coffee, snacks yummies and incidentals. It won't cover Saturday's dinner at the Bella Notte, but their prices are pretty cheap and the food excellent.
• There are a limited number of electric hookups for those who really need them. There is a dump station of sorts availble. No water hookups.
• No showers.
• We may be able to use one of the buildings which has a large kitchen, meeting room and bathrooms. But will be able to use a large shelter if needed
• An individual parade entry form is optional. I will register as a group. The parade is pretty informal. Or you can just watch or ride with someone else
• Bring lots of candy to throw at the kiddies.Friday and Saturday night we will have a campfire (conditions permitting) We will have one of the best campfires at any rally Bring some firewood.

The 3rd annual is over with the biggest participation yet 14 coaches. A proposal for next year is a historical walking tour of Estancia. New this year at the Pumpkinfest was cowboy mounted marksmen.
