Hi Guys,
Just a FYI, you may want to call Cachuma to see if the fires have had an impact on them. My Stepmom is in Santa Ynez and the pass has been closed recently due to the fires which have been all around Cachuma.

The fire threat has mostly subsided in the general Santa Ynez valley area. Hwy 154 has been open (with only warnings of traffic delays due to fire equipment) for a week or so now. As of this morning, the fire is 79% contained, and it looks like full containment is expected by Sept. 7th

A new fire started on Hwy 246 near Lompoc (Jalama) the other day, but it looks like that one is a bit more manageable than the Zaca fire. Whew, we've had our fill of smoke around here!

Me too, Laurel! I'm watching very closely and am hopeful that I can schedule at least one of the streamers rallies in. I love both the contending campgrounds!

See you at LSA!

Hi Meredith, It is great to hear from you.

We were in Ventura last weekend (Thurs-Sat) for a century bike ride and the smoke was pretty bad--in fact, we left on Saturday because we could see the ashes on our truck and we could feel it in our lungs. Even though being from LA and not trusting air that you can't see, we left early. Ed rode his bike home on PCH from Malibu instead. (He should have ridden from Ventura but we had to drop the trailer in Thousand Oaks)

Hope the fires are out soon. pj

Hi Paula -

I hope you guys had fun in Ventura, despite the smoke and ash. I've never stayed at that campground before, although I always scan it on my way by for Airstreams!

We were actually camping in Laurel's neck of the woods at Morro Bay State Park last weeknd. Wow, was it nice. Great spot, beautiful weather, lots to do. The kids had a great time scootering around with the campground kid posse, and selling lemonade with our neighbors in the next site. We took a day trip to the elephant seal rookery at Piedra Blanca and watched the big males during their haul out (molting season for them), had a great lunch at Ragged Point, and I even got to do some antiquing in Cayucos. Fun fun fun!

Hope to see you and your trailer soon . Ok, I'm done hijacking this thread!

Hi Meredith,

Sounds like you guys had a lots fun last weekend. My girlfriend and I drove up to SF last weekend and we drove by Piedra Blanca and Ragged Point on Saturday. We almost stayed and had lunch at RP, but it was too crowded, so we headed north to Lucia for lunch instead. Did we miss you there?

Wouldn't that be cool if we ran into you? Hopefully, we'll see ya at one of the upcoming rallies.

Beautiful day for lunch on the cliffs

Hi Cat, wow, what a co-ink-i-dink! We were there from about 12 noon to 3pm. It was crowded. That would have been a hoot to run into you there .

Lucia must have been nice too.....

Yup! We were there at about 12:30pm and had a hard time finding a parking spot, so we left with stomach crawling. Can't believe I missed you guys there...

Lucia was so nice as well. Wasn't the ocean beautiful that day? It was sapphire color all the way...amazing.

Hi Meredith, one more hijack....we had a great time--just being in our SteSpot....but the Ventura Beach RV park is immediately adjacent to the 101 on the land side--and while the facility is nice and clean....the traffic noise is Loud......we had a hard time getting a reservation as we were late--no wait list--so I called every day and finally got overflow status....later upgraded to a site....and then there were empty sites next to us on Friday night...go figure....I guess we were lucky to have a place on such late notice and they do have $1 soft ice cream cones. Hope to see you soon....pj

Got us a Winter campsite

Mrs. Goin and I found us the perfect campsite. We're there now.

No problem with sites. They say we can have as many as we want.

All sites are on a big lake. Lots of trees and streams.

$4.00 a night with full hookups.

Our Son can get us onto the Military base where the Campgropund is.

Fort Drum.

Anyone interested?

Rudy
