Wayne,
The above phrases in your post describe exactly what we found in our unit (WDCU) of the WBCCI. We weren't even looking for or expecting it, but it was there. Other than a few professional and service organizations, this is my only group membership. And, while I haven't been interested enough in the negativity to truly research it because we've been having such a good time, I would suspect much of it is coming from a very vocal minority. Find the right unit and give it a shot. Anything above the unit level is BS and politics anyway.
Hope you have a great trip. Looking forward to reading about on your blog. We just got back from a cross country trip, and will soon head out again. Perhaps we'll see you on the road.

Thanks to you and those that have PM'd me on this issue. We have made contact with our local unit and will participate in a local rally this weekend. I spoke with one of the organizers this afternoon. The warm welcome I received makes me believe that your opinion is correct.
We look forward to sharing our experiences with other AS enthusiasts.

Just so we all know the current number of members per region.
1-276
2-755
3-1001
4-488
5-287
6-359
7-147
8-238
9-530
10-627
11-347
12-431
So the range is 150-1000 not evenly distributed
There are several units WA-327, GA-316, ON-165 that have more members than some regions.
Another metric that would be interesting to show is a map with members per state.

Can anyone tell me the current membership total of the WBCCI? Or is this list it?

You have to add in all the MAL members to get the total. For the IBT to proportionally represent the members, the Regions should be approximately equal. That would mean some Region would cover vast areas. The requirement that the Region officers visit all their units would put a large travel burden on those officers. In the new age of electronic communication, physical travel requirements should be dropped.

Bob,
Thanks for breaking down the numbers per-Region. Maybe a way to help fix the falling numbers at the International Rally would be to hold it in a Region (or the areas around the Region) that have the most amount of members?
If you look at the Region map, look at the numbers, it's no wonder why the International Rally numbers keep falling.
If you held the thing in an area say like Virginia, NC, PA area you could pull from over 3000 members within an 8-12 hour drive!
But once again, the leadership would rather hold it in an area that is surrounded by the smallest Regions that takes over a two day drive to get to.

With the Mal's it a tad + or - 6,000
In fact to get a true picture the mal's location on state map would be helpful as well.

Last I heard total membership was somewhere around 6200. (Remember, that's families, not individuals.)

Hi Don,
As of the end of April there were 5,958 members of which 5,483 belonged to units and 475 were MALs.

Is there anyway we can mark this date and time on a forums calendar?

I like the breakdown.
The question was about feedback from Region officers. I answered the question.
The Region membership is definitely out of balance. Under the current system, the GA Unit and the Washington Unit should each have Region representation!

Heck, yes. The Georgia Area can have their annual Area Rally at Top of Georgia Airstream Park and the Washington Area can have their Area Rally at Land Yacht Harbor, and most of the members won't have to travel at all to attend.
And all the members in the hypothetical Midwest Area, consisting of about 30 states and most of the Canadian provinces--covering 5 or 6 million square miles--can be content driving thousands of miles to their Area Rally. Or maybe switch to TAC.
Might the WBCCI be better off eliminating the travel requirements and reimbursement for Region presidents and leave the Region structure alone? Just a thought.

That is a great idea. Where is that requirement again?
I would hate to see a downsizing of our Region Rally. Meeting with folks from other Units is the best part!

If you want proportional representation on the IBT you need to equalize the Regions/areas populations. I have not seen when there has been a fight put up by the majority of the Region Presidents in opposition to the EC-7 initiatives. EC7 (+PIP's) rules the roost. So maybe it does not make any difference. For now, the self perpetuating Nominating Committee fully determines who is worthy of joining the EC7.

They should be announced tomorrow at the July 5th IBT Meeting which is 'live streamed' as that is when Barry Heckenswiler takes over as the new President.

Thank you both for the .pdf link and the reminder of the next simulcast tomorrow. Is there also such a thing as a master list of the 1st-3rd Region Presidents?
Then as long as I am asking, though this may be too far flung from the top, but how about unit and intraclub officers lists, are they available? And now I am going to be downright inquisitive and ask if there is a committee and volunteer list available and if there is any one who would care to approximate just how many WBCCI members may hold positions in any single given year? And if I am forgetting any chapter or branch of WBCCI please also point that out as well.
Foremost, I am interested in watching the upcoming region presidents and officers to watch for change within the club. Though it is impelling to consider just how many volunteers are helping run the club. As was stated by someone recently anyone can step up and volunteer. I almost think every member has and does, though not all would be titled and recognized. It is the recognized ratio to membership total that I would think extremely high. And while the spirit of volunteerism is both necessary and commendable, there is such a thing as too many cooks and in a small kitchen at one time to be effective.
