2011 WBCCI Membership Directory Totals

It's that time of year again.Every year since 1996 I have gone through the annual WBCCI Membership Directory and tracked which unit each member in the directory has paid their dues to.These totals are for the primary unit and does not include associate memberships.
It is important to keep in mind that my totals are only as accurate as the information printed in the directory.
There is always cases where renewals are received late either by accident or on purpose as has been pointed out in previous years by a few on the forums. There are also other possibilities including printing errors and over the years this has happened several times.
I have over the years refined my tabulations so that each membership is checked at least twice to reduce errors.Human error is always a possibility but I feel very confident that these numbers are fairly accurate.
As this thread runs its course,I will post some of the results I found.
First the big number

2006 WBCCI Directory total--6919 Members

2007 WBCCI Directory total--6549 Members

2008 WBCCI Directory total--6406 Members

2009 WBCCI Directory total--6091 Members

2010 WBCCI Directory total--5947 Members

2011 WBCCI Directory total--5496 Members

A 7.5% drop in membership since last year. A 20.5% drop since 2006. No political statement(s) (please!), but these numbers are not good for the overall health of the WBCCI; stating the obvious of course.

Repost from last years thread

Last year I received a lot of feedback after posting the numbers. There was a lot of negative feedback which caused me to wonder if I would even bother to post the numbers this year. The determining factor was the amount of positive feedback far outweighed the negative.
I know the WBCCI has it's issues to deal with as has been covered in an endless number of threads.I am providing these numbers for those that are interested and hope this thread does not deteriorate into another WBCCI bashing thread as that is not the intention.

Mike thanks for posting the numbers. A quick question, can you separate the number of renewals from the number of new members?

Thanks, Dan

No I cannot. Without doing a recheck I believe there were 723 new entries in the 2011 Directory but not all were new members. Some could have been existing members who didn't renew in time for the 2010 Directory. There were also a few lower numbers issued to Region Presidents etc
Home Office in Jackson Center Ohio would have the answer to ypur question.

Other than NOVA, which is new, were there any units which grew in membership numbers?

Thanks for wading through the data.

Very strange! As Webmaster of Region 9, I was never informed that the West Texas Unit had died. It is still listed in the last form I received from the Region 9 President, but without having a President listed. I figured that he simply had not received the info at the time he made up the form. West Texas has in the past been a very active unit at region rallies. I'll update the website tonight.

Region 9 has two additional units hanging by threads. I expect to see one or both die this year.

It would appear that the units which grew are intimate in numbers. Can any members of those units comment on how active they are? Being as small as they are, I would expect almost every member is regularly engaged in unit activities. Is that a correct hypothesis?

Mike, Thanks for the information. If I read this right our Oregon Unit 090 has the biggest increase in membership with 14 members. We had 17 new member so we had only 3 non-renewals. We are a FUN unit, Fun Rallies, we love to fly our flags ( sometimes a pirate flag sneaks in) Everyone wants a wool blue Beret. We don't take ourselves seriously. We do a lot of family fun things and our local dealers love us. We have a face book page, Oregon Airstream living, and we have a lot of fun with that. I guess that is why we have grown.

Your unit is doing very well considering the unit had a membership of 55 in 2005 and has grown to 104 in 2011.

Members at large (MAL's)

There are more MAL memberships than any single unit.It is also the group that has the most movement of members. Each year there are more joining and more leaving than any other unit. One thing I did notice last year was there were quite a few MAL's that joined regular units.

2010 MAL membership 463
2011 MAL membership 406

Working with the VAC, I am always encouraging MALs to join a unit - either 4CU or WDCU or other units like that - more for their money.
