Ryan,

You might have done this already, but, I would call all the dealers on the West Coast (they all have toll free numbers) and let them know about this. More than likely, whoever this GOOBER is that stole your Airstream, will call an A/S dealer and try to sell it...we have had a couple call hear in the past that were stolen and they thought they would get more money from an actual dealer.

Provide them with all the info at the top of the thread.

Just a thought!

This thread has highlighted the fact that there is more than one stolen trailer still at large. I am also encouraged that these units in many cases have very uniquue features (orange brown awning, double windows, etc.). I am wondering whether a "Stolen Airstreams" area could be established on this web site. It would have a page for each trailer stolen, with pictures, where stolen, VIN#, and notes on specific features. All of us forum members, perspective buyers, and dealers would then have one place they can easliy check to see if a perspective Airstream is "hot". This forum has become such a central point for all things Airstream, it's natural to me to have this area, without necessarily searching past threads. Just one more idea to ponder.

We're still looking for it, but have yet to get any word.

Now we're in the claims process with our insurance agent...

Also thinking about investing in another 50's fixer (Flying Cloud especially) to take our minds off the 18 footer. Maybe it'll show up after we've bought another one, eh?

R & K

PS. The awning is straight up Orange, not brown. I think the Sunbrella name is "tuscan."

This thread has made me completely revise my locking strategy. Ordered my new wheel boot yesterday: PitBull TireLock - Wheel Locks for your most demanding Parking Enforcement and Anti-Theft needs!

Hmmm, I wonder if that wheel-boot might be the way to go. Is there any way that it can be defeated, circumvented, etc.?? Pricey, but well worth it if it is 100% effective.
Hope the '59 turns up soon, or at least brings a fair insurance settlement.

The one I ordered can be cut if someone is really aggressive in their attempts, but they sell some more expensive ones that there's no way around. I live in a pretty safe area, so it's as much a visual deterrent as it is a locking device for me.
When I see something like this story, it makes me fighting mad. I hate a thief. Hopefully someone will spot it and it will get returned to them unharmed. So much time and effort spent on an already rare trailer. There can be another Airstream in its place, but the work and love for it can never truly be replaced.

Stolen Airstream--GPS Monitors?

I have been keeping my eye out for your missing little girl. Had an idea this morning....can we hide GPS monitors on our trailers? That way, even if our best efforts to keep 'em safe and thwarted, at least we can track 'em down?

BTW, there is a great 'helper' site for searching craigslist. You can search whole states, etc.; Craig's Helper - Search Craigslist Quickly and Easily

Sharon, welcome to the forums. If you look back at post #56 of this thread by Mike L their is a tracking product. Also another member pointed out one with out monthly service fee and you just pay for "locates".

You're so right on the money. What eats at us every day is knowing that our perfect trailer that we put not just money, but tons of time and love into, is being used and probably abused by someone else. Grrr.

We're looking at adding a boot and GPS locator to our original security lineup; whether its on the 18 footer or a new-to-us unit.

I first discover your lost on the West Seattle Blog. I am surprised that the Airstream was stolen - West Seattle has a great community ~ Esp if you are in a great neighborhood. People watch over others.

I will keep my eyes opened for the Airstream and I hope justice is served.

PS - I saw 2 Airstreams in Ballard today. Unfortunately, they were Caravels.

May your lovely Airstream be returned to you safely.

West Seattle

This is my first post, I am sorry for your loss. I think It's your neighborhood that's the problem (my bias from my loss). I had my 2001 f-350 stolen from West Seattle in 2005 I lost over $50K in tools and stereo in it. It was parked there overnight for one night. I am on Bainbridge Island and will keep an eye out for it over here.

Yes, you can search the entire US.

There are two web pages that you can use to do national searches. I use this one to search all of the US for items from time to time.

Anthony Damata's Global Craigslist Search Engine

I also use this one to search state by state:

States

My guess is it's out of the country already. But you never know. Sometimes they'll sit on these things, then try to unload them when think things have settled down.

So sorry for your loss. What would you do to prevent this from happening again.
Wheel locks?
We feel your pain.

Our plan when we find this trailer or get a new one is to install a lo-jack device and add a boot to the two locks we were using...
