That is just heartbreaking. I hope everyone was all right. Did the tree just fall over as you went by or was there a storm while you were in it?

That is a tragic ending . Feels like there should be a funeral or something. Glad you are all okay.

This makes me feel sick. What a sad day for this to all come to an end. What are your plans now?

So sorry to see this. Your work and this thread on your trailer were one of my primary motivators as we restored our '59 Overlander.

We were not in the trailer. It was in a pull out along Ave of the Giants Redwood Forest. We went for a walk and heard the crash.
Waiting to deal with the Insurance Adjusted tomorrow.

Be sure to get a competent outside appraisal before settling! Most companies do not understand Airstreams.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
Ditto on Max Well's advice. What you will need to do is amass some evidence (comparable models for example), of what your airstream was worth. The insurance company will probably try to use some sort of blue book guide.....which will be totally useless.

Why do you say no need to replace Leaf Spring axles? Do they ever need replacing? Are they as good as torsion? I have two trailers that both have leaf, so I am in that world right now...
Thanks

Since you are for sure replacing the tires. You may want to find a place that is local to the trailer and take it there for a bearing replacement/repack. They should have all the parts sitting on the shelf and that way you can also inspect the brakes. While they are working on that you will have time to get the wiring figured out. Since a 59 has leaf spring suspension you will not need to replace the axles unless you have a bearing failure on the road and un-temper the spindle. In fact the seller may be able to recommend someone that is close enough to work or can have it done for you prior to pick up.
Best suggestion on the wiring is to buy and carry a new plug that is designed to fit your truck. Along with the printouts of the wiring diagram from the Airstream site.
You could rig up lights. All you need to do is buy a set of the magnetic tail lights. They should stay on the bumper if they can make good contact.
