50 amp

50 amp w/ 2 AC's .
You will thank me later.

Also , I believe one unit is a 15000 BTU. (May be wrong, but sure I will be corrected , if so).

We are in Houston so its 50 amp in our 25RB and we would go that way if we had to do it over. Trailer is well lit with the wrap around windows so I am thinking we are not missing too much. The OEM 50 amp cord is horrible. If you go 50 amp, plan to replace it. We have been pleased with the Valterra Mighty Cord. We put Easy Starts on both A/C's and can run both on the 30 amp service in Texas state parks. Extends the season for us. I think the biggest difference is that the two units just cool the trailer faster.

We have a 23D, and live near San Antonio. We do State Parks in the region in the summer, as well as Galveston and Port Aransas, both on the Gulf, and both with staggering humidity. A few years ago we spent a week in Puerto Penasco MX, on the Sea of Cortez, also very muggy. We have been to Destin several times, also on the Gulf. In all locations, one AC has been more than sufficient, in fact freezing us out on occasion. Two more feet should not make a difference, but as others have said, get what you are comfy with. For me it would be one AC and 30amps.

Welcome to Flying Clouds!
We went for the 50 amp, 2 A/C 25. The front A/C is 15K BTU & the rear is a 13.5K. Again, many of the pros and cons have been addressed. Most of the time we only need 1 A/C & use a 30 amp cable with a 90 degree Marinco 30-50 adapter. It's a lot easier to handle but when needed wrestling with the 50 amp anaconda is worth it.

tommyglen I like the idea of getting/making a shorter 50 amp cable to use when possible.

Another advantage of the 50 amp setup is we can change which unit is on to keep the noise to a minimum, especially when sleeping.

Sometimes it's better to have something and not need it than to need it and not have it. I can pretty much guarantee you will need the second AC at some point and be glad you had it. There are other times when you'll use it for the luxury of cooling the unit quickly after a day's travel when you're hot, tired and want to be inside where it's cool. Others have stated that there are many power cord choices available. I find a 15 foot, 50 amp cord is all that is needed 95% of the time. A 15 foot cord is easy to handle and provides power to everything in the unit without any interruptions. I carry a 15 foot extension in the back of my pickup for those times when the extra cord is needed.

No question. 50 amp.
You won't run both AC's all the time, but you'll get options.
Plus, 50 amp service takes away the "Can I run the WH and microwave together?" conundrum.

Thank you, 80Ram! I'm getting the sense that either option will work just fine.

Happy travels to you,

Tim

Thank you, Mollysdad. I'm thinking about having the advantage of more options too with the 50 amp setup.

Happy travels to you,

Thank you, tbrowne. I agree with the benefits of having two units. And we rarely needed the full length of the 30 amp cord with our Sport 22FB. So I'll look into a shorter 50 amp cord if I go that route which is how I'm leaning.

Happy travels to you,

Tim

Thank you, RivetED. I did think about switching between units depending on what end of the trailer we're in. Might be most useful for sleeping.

Happy travels to you,

Tim

Thank you, DCPAS. I appreciate the product recommendation too. I'll have to look into the Easy Starts for the a/c units.

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks, Banderabob. One would hope that the standard setup will get the job done.

Cheers,

Didn't read all responses, most involved the AC situation but one thing you'll probably run into with 30 amp that's annoyed me, lack of amps at the campground. There's been occasion I've used a "dog bone" and plugged into the 50 amp socket because on 30, using your microwave, coffeemaker and AC or other high draw appliances it trips the pedestal breakers in a lot of campgrounds. They just can't provide the juice and going outside to reset breakers can be a pain in the rain and then you have to decide what to use or turn off to avoid repeats. I think 50 would provide more latitude.

We just traded a 2020 FC 30 amp for a 2021 International 50 amp.

The extra air conditioner drove the decision.

Tim and Amy
I think this is key; you prefer windows open. Therefore the second fan may be great. I prefer open windows but my wife's allergies do not like it so we are happy with the two units and the loss of the fan. There are days when the weather is fine where we do have the windows open and I wish I had a fan at the other end (we have a 27FB so our "missing" fan would be in the bedroom).

Note that a lot of the state parks where we stay only have 30A anyway.

The 50A cord that came with the Airstream was very stiff and heavy; nearly unmanageable. We got one of these (or something substantially similar) and it is much easier to handle and store.

Have fun!

We did not do this in Vegas this summer with one 30 amp AC best we could get the trailer with Full Awning's and solar barrier in cabinets and windows was 91 degrees, At night it would work.

I suggest going with the 50 amp/dual AC. Especially if you are in southern climates and like to be cool.

50 amp is what we have. Here is a great solution to the Anaconda cord,

50 amp RV Generator Extension Cord, Heavy Duty Pure Copper with Handle, 14-50P Male and SS2-50R Twist Locking Female, 6AWG3C+8AWGC, ETL Listed (15 ft)

Amazon has it. The short cord gets used 75% of the time.

I really liked having 2 Fantastic Fans on my old Excella. I had awnings all around, and one air conditioner. It was always comfortable. However, I did not travel in the South in the hot months either.

Hi

We've had five Airstreams, would not buy one without two ACs. Not only for occasional need BUT the ACs are dometic, they fail. They seldom fail at the same time, but they do fail, we've had two fail and then we always had one operational.

I do not find the 50amp cord any more of a problem than the 30amp and I'm 72. I simply wrap it all up in a nice circle on the ground either near the trailer or the campground plub, put three velcro straps around the cord and pick it up and place it in storage. So far no issue.

Good Luck and enjoy,

Bud
