Alde Fluid

Have a question, how often do you have to add fluid? Our dealer told us they checked and it was at the line. We took it on a two week trip, running the heat at night and early morning. That’s it. We’re already at the minimum level. Is that normal? Clearly we need to carry a lot with us if that’s the case. I thought the new Alde fluid was suppose to be longer lasting.

Pretty much never.

Once the system is full, the fluid doesn't go anywhere. There are a bunch of bleed valves for getting air out of the system. Until all the air is out, you could easily use a few gallons to top things off. It is very normal to have a bit of air here or there if service has ben done on the system.

We recently flushed our Alde fluid after two years. The dealer suggested only filling the Alde fluid to just above the minimum line as the volume expands upon heating (and you don’t lose excess through the overflow drain). That said, we’ve only added a few ounces every year - minimal - over the past two years.

I do carry a spare bottle of Alde fluid in case “something happens” or if a fellow Airstreamer needs a top-off.

We get ours from our dealer.

Ironic this just posted on my email. Yesterday we checked our fluid level and it was showing 0. We added and will monitor it. There is no sign of leakage anyplace. No surprise. We’ve had nothing but trouble with that system since we purchased the trailer new.
