Glamping
Anyone else run into the term "glamping" on RV websites? I was looking at some hipster vintage trailer websites, thinking THEY might have some cool campgrounds to stay at, and I kept seeing glamping. Apparently it started with luxury camping
http://travel.nytimes.com/2008/09/14...14green-1.html
and has spread to trailer camping. So, now there is a word for what we do.

Check out the website Glamping with Mary Jane...she claims to be the one who started the movement. She has also claimed the first weekend in June as the glamping weekend. I am thinking about taking some of my best friends away for a girls weekend! I like the term and have kept it in mind through my airstream reno. My husband isn't as keen on glamping, I think he prefers manly camping!

I did all the manly camping stuff when I was younger. Now it's glamping all the way - why else would I buy an Airstream?

Maybe Mary Jane coined the word, but we've been glamping for years! Never suffer bad food or wine, or uncomfy beds! Now it's back underneath the Globetrotter, to finish mouse-proofing.

I don't think her airstream would be that great to glamp in...she removed the toilet and opted for a claw foot tub! It photographs well and sure is cute, but I prefer a potty nearby and not on the other side of a campground! I do love the idea of getting girls to camp together and to try new adventures...

I'll have to look at her blog again, a clawfoot tub? I'm somewhat drawn to the caravans from Carnevale on HBO, and the clawfoot tub fits that aesthetic.

That's my sort of Glamping.

We've definitely opted for comfort in our renovation. And we've taken a certain amount of care with our interior decor...
...and then we go for a couple of weeks in the late summer and fill every nook and cranny with dust.

Barbie, I'd say you're a glamper, I love the bath that you built. The Neverwas Haul is fascinating, they way they can turn it into a 5th wheel, then make it self propelled.

I see a new travel thread beginning called:
Globie Goes Glamping
Has kind of a nice ring to it, but I am sure that the moderator will be moving it over to the On The Road forums soon.

Ya Dirigible, we were making up all kinds of GL words on our dog walk- currently looking for glampgrounds for Globie. What else is an Airstream for if not glamping? Ours is currently in our driveway, after a day of working on it and an evening of cocktails and music...

Yeah, I'm working on my Safari, getting ready for spring, with a trip to Yellowstone in the offing this July. I can't wait for a few shorter trips between now and then.

That sounds great, I'd love to hit some of the big parks inland. We're headed out in a few days, down the coast to San Simeon for a long weekend.

Ha, no doubt! During my renovation I've painstakingly applied beautiful ribbon-striped mahogany veneer, and polished countless feet of aluminum.
And then for at least one week per year, I park it directly on the beach and watch my 5-year-old and 3-year-old beat the heck out of it!
Sometimes I think I should have just pulled the entire interior, rhino-lined it, put a drain in the middle, and hose it down after every use. I have no idea how those folks caravanned from Capetown to Cairo so many years ago, I can't imagine how much dirt I could collect in my trailer doing the same thing.
