New 2018 Airstream flying cloud 30FB price

Hey there. Brand new to the forum. My family and I are on the verge of pulling the trigger on a new 2018 Flying Cloud 30FB.. (after looking for used, and coming up empty). We've just begun the back and forth with the dealer here in Colorado, and curious if anyone has high level advice for what is a good price to pay.

The MSRP for the unit is 99k, but not sure what others are paying who have bought the same model in the past year or so. The best info I've seen on a few posts was that people were getting 8-9k off MSRP from their dealer.

I'm also going to ask for the equalizer (leveling) hitch to be thrown in.

We'll be towing this with a 2017 Toyota Tundra that has the towing package. We're looking to add airbags to help with the hitch weight as this trailer lists 908lbs, and our Tundra is rated at 980. Was going to send a separate post on this stuff, but wanted to start with making sure we're getting a good offer first.

You need to shoot for $20k plus discount. 20% discount is commonplace. I did a little better than that on my new 2017 30’ back in May. Shop around.

Tundra is at the limit for that trailer. Watch your payload.

I think you need a bigger truck! Unless your family and gear weigh under 72 lbs. Airbags may keep the truck level but they don't increase the actual capacity of the truck.

Bought one from Windish in Lakewood. Won't be back. Found a great dealer in Las Vegas and had all sorts of warranty work done with them that the Colorado dealer blew off.

Particularly at this time of year (from around November through early next year), you should get at least 20% off MSRP; best suggestion: buy before end of year, as dealers settle their books at year end & want units off their lot by then. And I agree, your TV seems a little light to me for a 30 ft trailer.

I'd also like to mention that if I were in your shoes, instead of getting a new 2018 30 ft Flying Cloud, I'd also be looking at a near new 30 ft Classic. You should be able to get somewhere around a 2015 Classic 30 for around what you'd pay for a 2018 FC, and that near new Classic is a lot more trailer & shouldn't depreciate anywhere near what the new FC would.

Yeah. The reason we're looking specifically at the 30FB Flying Cloud, is the layout. With our kids (and potentially 1 or 2 other people), we really like the dedicated queen and bunks. Especially with the lower bunk being large enough for an adult. The dinette and lounge could be used if needed too, but not tied up as dedicated sleeping locations.

I've spent many hours going over the other floor plans, and keep coming back to the bunks and queen. I'm sort of assuming due to the demographic that normally buys Airstreams (not a young family with small kids), the bunk / queen layout isn't massively popular. I found 1 used that was a 2016, but that sold quickly, and we're back to looking at new. I think my plan will be to look for an end of year deal, and work the price as best I can from there. Helps to know what I should be asked though. Appreciate the feedback.

As for our tow vehicle (and the fact that we're light weights, and don't really carry a lot of cargo in the truck), I think we'll first attempt to get the weight dist worked out as best we can, and see where that gets us on some shorter trips. I posted in another thread all the details of our TV, and people seem to agree that if we don't haul much in the truck, and get the WD hitch setup correctly, we "should" be ok. Instead of just trying to trade in our truck so soon without knowing how the setup works, and losing that $$, I'd rather learn how it works first, and go from there. Appreciate the help.

20% off MSRP and go with a 3/4 ton truck. With 1000lbs on the tongue and a family of 4, you won’t have much payload left with the Tundra.

Remember that the steep discounts often apply to units on the dealers' lots that they want to get sold and gone. When you special order, if you do, there is probably less dealer incentive--some discount, but don't expect as much as if the unit was already on the lot and tying up the dealer's inventory cash.

You will be at the real upper end of you TV rating. You don't need air bags, you need weight distributing equalizer bars that can make your truck and AS level, and transfer some of the weight forward to the front TV axle and back to the AS axles. Be careful, I almost overloaded my front axle transferring so much weight off of my rear axle, and at the same moment almost overloaded my AS front axle. If you are real low in the rear of the TV, air bags will raise the height, but may overload the rear truck axle. Axles have weight ratings, springs have different weight ratings, wheels different ratings and the tires different still and you are limited by the smallest of them, although tires and wheels and even springs are easier to swap out if you aren't a 4WD.

Go ahead and try it with WD bars, save the air lift bag money, and see if it works. If it doesn't you probably should go to the 3/4 ton TV. Keep in mind that 1/2 ton trucks have smaller brakes, lighter duty transmissions and engine cooling, and when you upgrade to 3/4 ton, if you need it, you get more brakes, stronger transmission, better engine cooling, and maybe a bigger engine, and they cost more.

We just bought a 2018 International Signature 27FB, did our research looking at NADA reports, 20% off is standard. We live in Southern California and had absolutely NO problem getting the 20%. Sticker price was 104K we paid 84K. Good Luck!

Good luck getting 20% off in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I had several dealers involved and got a 16% discount off a 2017. No way on a 2018. These things are selling like hotcakes and the wait is 6 months if you want to order one.

Did you buy from a Southern California Airstream dealership? How was the buying experience? Knowledge of the sales staff?

We paid just over $80k for our ‘18 bunk. Ordered it at the Houston RV show in Feb.
