Favorite Gadget?

I just love reading about everyone's restorations and rennovations, reading the many tips and traps shared by forum members, and wandering through Camping World and checking out all the cool stuff. My question to the "community" is..."What is YOUR favorite/most useful AS camping gadget?"

Airstream Journal

We're still kind of new at camping in our trailer, but so far my favorite AS accessory is my Airstream Journal. I bought it before we left on our 1300 mile journey to pick up our trailer and have since have logged many pages of adventures and wonderful memories. I leave it on the table inside the trailer so visitors can make entries and read all about the fun we are having with our new vintage Airstream.

That's a tough one for me, I like it all - is the polished skin a gadget?
My wife likes the Vista windows at the roof transition. She loves to show them off.
Our lighted flamingos are kinda cool too, especially at night in the reflection of the skin.

My favorite gadget has to be the brightly colored magnetic poles to line up for hitching. I have a Hensley, and I can hook up first time, every time by myself.

Magnetic poles? I want some! They sound great. Do they just sort of draw you in to the right spot?

Boy, that's a toughie. It's so hard to decide.

Two stand out for me. The first is Rotochocks. They take no time to put on at all, but secure a tandem axle trailer as if the wheels had been burried in cement.

The second would be the unusual tripod we use for setting up a satellite dish antenna. Can't remember the brand name right now, but in a year of full timing, we had reliable TV everywhere we stopped, with the exception of two places I think, and they were both tree coverage issues. This particular gadget makes it possible to set up the antenna in something like 5 minutes, and the foot fills with water to make it rock stable.

Those magnetic poles are quite fun as well.

I got one of those. Works great with my pick-up but has suction cups to fasten the mirrow to the trunk of our convertible. I gotta move fast as the cups do not stay stuck for long. I seldom ask my wife, Lynn, to help. I can't seem to teach her how to direct me. Last time she began to wave her hand rapidly in front of her. I stomped on the brakes! What the....Just a bug flying in front of her face.

My PSP because it bundles lots of gadgets in one neat package -- games, wifi, music, photos and movies.

It may be hard to get excited about the black tank, although plenty of discussions on the subject, but the Flush King has really enabled me to "see" what I've been missing all those years. Sanitization has a whole new meaning. I also like my 19.2 volt cordless right angle drill. This is a must for those very tight spaces which are everywhere in the Airstream. Bring along a 3/4" socket and it makes lowering/raising the BAL's effortless.

What get's used daily, in the AS and like today when I make a rare venture out in my Cadillac.... is the GPS USB module. It came bundled with the Delorme Street Atlas software. I need constant mapping to get me to all the spots I go to.
Being a pilot I've grown acustomed to the moving map idea and feel something is missing if I'm in a new locale and don't have it running.

Kinda goofy, but I have a small light made up of six LED's that clips onto my cap peak. Does it ever come in handy doing anything in the dark, or under the trailer, or even when we go for an evening stroll and get into an area where it's very dark. Lot's of light, don't have to carry it, and my wife thinks I'm a geek but surprisingly she wears my cap when she's heading off to somewhere in the campground in the dark rather than carry a flashlight. It cost $15 bucks at the local RV store.

Duct tape. Won't leave home without it. It's held important camping stuff together on trips since our tenting days, including our tents. . .and still comes in handy once in a while with Gypsy. Word of warning--don't leave dt on the surface of your Airsteam any longer than absolutely necessary. There would be some who would say never to use it, but when you need it, you'll be glad you have it! ~G

Well, I don't know about you, but I get pretty excited about my black tank as do a few other (to remain unnamed) NEU members.

You can easily figure out who we are (especially if you get caught behind us in the dump station line) because we are the ones that take the longest time at the dump station!

We pride ourselves on having almost-like-new black tanks!

Same for us, My friend ZoominC6 gave us our set and they quickly became my favorite hook up tool. I think Hensley should include them with each hitch...

That's a tough one ... I'm torn ... either a bottle opener or a corkscrew, depending on whether I'm a beer or wine kinda mood.

Your answer does not count. Both items are essentials and thus not gadgets.

Yuki,
Notice I used the word sanitize, not normally part of my vocabulary while my hands are in any area below the belly skin. I'll go alng with clean, fresh as a daisy.
