Cheatham Dam Lock A
While camping this summer at Cheatham Dam Lock A near Ashland City, TN., an unexpected storm came through. My friends next to me and I were able to close our awnings fast enough but the motorhome next to him and the trailer next to me were not so lucky. A big limb came down and destroyed the awning rods near the front of the motorhome. The trailer awning was thrown over the trailer and when the wind changed direction, it was blown back over, ripped off and landed on the guy's boat windshield breaking it. Wow, were we lucky.
The place is great for jetskiing, fishing, swimming and general lounging around. Our units are 30 yards from the river and 100 yards from the boat ramp. There is also a fish cleaning station complete with fish grinder.

OMG! That is a good reminder why you want to pull your awning in whle your away! I've had a close call a couple times taking mine in while it was trying to become a sail, but fortunatly have never suffered damage...

Looks like a neat place....what do the charge and is the actual name of the campground Cheatham Dam? Is is a private, state or fed run campground. I'd like to find a bit more info on it for a possible trip there in the future.

Go to www.reserveusa.com and bring the state menu up. Click on Tennessee and it will show a map. Lock A is just west of Nashville and is part of Cheatham Dam. It is run by the Army Corp of Engineers and is a really nice campground. We usually get on sites 26, 27 & 27 because it is near the boat ramp. I think they were charging $24 or $27 per night. It should be on their website.

Lock A
I've camped there 3 times so far. I had a few electrical problems the first time but they were due to a bad 30 amp power cord plug. The last 2 times out have been fantastic. I try to arrive on Thur. or Fri. and the gang stays up late Fri. evening "jugging" for catfish. We usually come in around 1 a.m. Sat. morning. I'm not much on fresh fish (ruined by Captain D's) but those catfish dipped in egg mixture, dipped in Zataran's Cajun mix and then deepfried in peanut oil is fantastic! I was on the river at daybreak Sunday and caught a few Ky. bass. I usually leave on Sunday and my friends stay another day.
The showers are clean and the area well kept. They also have 2 or 3 large pavillions as well as a swimming area roped off with foam dividers and sand on the beach.

I made reservations again for Cheatham Dam Lock A for Aug. 25-28 for another 3.5 days of fishing, jetskiing, eating catfish fillets and just shooting the breeze with my friends in 3 other trailers. I'm trying to talk another couple into bringing their 5th wheel and bass boat.

Cheatham Lock CG
Hello David
I second your positive remarks regarding the campground. I have camped there several times in a van camper.
My only concern is the hill leaving the area with an under-powered tow vehicle and a large trailer.
