Advice on Replacing Corner Banana Piece

Below is a picture of the rear of my 34' Limited. I am replacing the piece that transitions from the bannana wrap to the bumper. There is also a picture of the new piece. Obviously, I need to trim the new piece and I can use the old piece as a template. However, I am curious about installation. If you look at the very front of the piece, a tab, about 4" wide, its bent up to go behind the rub rail and get riveted into the side of the trailer. At the rear, the top is riveted to the top of the frame rail. However, how do I attach the rest of the top? The one I took off was just held in place by the rivets in front and at the rear, plus several underneath. It seems like there should be some way to attach the top of this piece to the bottom of the trailer. Also, the front tab had propogated a small tear in the one I took off. Is this really the way AS originally installed this piece?

I hope all that made sense.

Thanks.
