Upgraded converter, now not charge batteries?

I upgraded my OEM converter (parallax 7355) to the PD 4655. Well now my batteries are draining and not charging even though plugged into shore power and the switch toggled to store.

It looks like they are charging when the switch is in use, but very, very slowly. Only 70 to 80 overnight.

All systems are working fine after the swap out.

I do have solar charger but doesn't get sun being inside.

Any reason why this is so?

Sid

Sid, your batteries are disconnected from the charging line when the disconnect switch is in the 'store' position; they receive no current from the converter! You must have the disconnect switch in the 'USE' position to charge your batteries.

And to add to what lewster wrote... remember that the "store" position doesn't disconnect the propane detector, so batteries discharge in storage if you haven't disconnected them physically or fixed Airstream's lawyer-driven design error.

Thanks guys,

I' had it in use mode since noon and the battery charge has dropped from 70 to 40. Pre-swap, I could leave the shore power on, switch to store and still had lights and battery would stay at 100%. Now everything goes out. DC board flashing every 5 sec meaning wizard in storage mode and maintaining charge w/13.2 VDC.

Currently,
Solar battery monitor showing 35% with bat volt at 11.2
Trailer monitor showing 3/8 charge
So they co-witness.

I talked to the vendor and he was clueless and gave not meaningful assistance.

I will check the bat connections in the AM. They have been very reliable in the past, just since the disconnect to swap out did they start the mystery.

I originally replaced our P-lax with a Zantax...same problem, no charge. Re-install OEM and fine. Got pretty good at swapping back and forth, install IOTA, good to go!

Update:

I disconnected the batteries and checked the voltage, 11.56 & 11.55.

I did the reverse swap and all back to normal. Both trailer & solar monitor went to 100%.

Thanks for the help Channing, David and Robert.

Now just to figure out what to do with the PD4655.

Is it more than two years old?

That model is one that fits into the integrated "power center" case, right? So you're limited on options without major changes, but the PD should have a 2-year warranty, maybe you can get it replaced if it's young enough.

David, the PD4655 is the new one that didn't work. I bought it a few months back and just got around to trying it.

I will call the mfg and explain the problem. They should take it back if it doesn't work!

I'm having this same problem. Swapping out the converter is a good idea. Any update on what the problem was?
