I know that forums member withidl tows a 31' Classic with a V8 gasser X5. You can PM him for more info. I don't know about who's towing what with the 35d, but it's an appealing vehicle in general.

We did purchase a 2012. X 5 35d it is a great tow vehicle. Comfortable and excellent MPG.
We are avg. 17 to 19 mpg. With torque of 425 foot pounds and 265 hp it is a real work horse.
