trailer tongue cover?

are the covers over the tongue where it goes into the shell mandatory, mine are both cracked beyond repair

Alan,
I would reccomend them, but seeing how they are NLA I would at least get a decent bead of caulk on there. I am going to make some up out of a PVC roofing membrane we use at work. It can be softened and heat welded to fit....(I just might make a cottage business out of it)

where the tongue frame goes under the skin of the trailer there were two hard plastic covers. Cracked from weathering. I took them off to repair them , but they were so dry they cracked worse.
