I think a class 3 would be ok, But if you are buying new I reccomend getting a class 4. In this arena more is better. Today you are lokking at a 27b but you may fall in love with a bigger unit, and need a better hitch. Overcapicity in the reciver is not a bad feature. Just my $.02 worth

Class 3 hitch

According to the Ford RV & Trailer Towing Guide* a class 3 hitch is heavy duty for 3,501 - 5,000 lb gross trailer weight, and that weight can be increased with a weight distributing hitch.

* I highly recommend the Ford RV & Trailer Towing Guide as GREAT reading about towing info.
