Driving through town yesterday and saw one of the Chrysler minivans with the fake wood paneling. Looked like an interesting vintage alternative. But those vehicles were a bit light weight and had a beam axle. Maybe better solution is your choice in a good late model tow vehicle with an interesting wrap. Picture of a model T or a corvette or a woodie or a flintstone log would all be fun. Pat

Have been happy towing our 1966 Tradewind with a 1969 Chevy C-10 pickup for the last 3 years of full-timing, though we are looking for a similar vintage Suburban for the convenience of a back seat. Suburbans came in 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton configurations, and many different drivetrain combinations. Decent fuel mileage is attainable with the right engine and gearing for your driving style. If you are accustomed to driving vintage, the noise level is one of the few drawbacks.

I can't believe the overwhelming response to this thread! I'd forgotten to check up on it and I'm so glad I did! Thanks for all of the great information, everyone. After reading through this, as well as some of our own research, it looks like we're probably looking for a newer SUV, sacrificing vintage appeal for modern comfort, technology, and safety. We're looking into a Grand Cherokee, but we'll see how that goes as time moves forward. We're still a ways away until we're done with Alice, so there's plenty of time to research! In the meantime, we created an Instagram account to act as a mini-blog (with hopefully a real blog to come soon) to chronicle our journey! Check us out if you'd like to see pictures! https://www.instagram.com/therivetedlife/

The search for a Grand Cherokee as a TV will bring an equal amount of responses. Enjoy
