My '85 Sovereign has the old style round magnet 10" x 2 1/4" Kelsey Hayes brakes. These were changed to a newer style in mid 1987 which uses a differnt actuator and an oval magnet. I'm going to redo my brakes and wonder if anyone has replaced the old style with loaded backer plates of the new style? What's involved? TIA
Gary
If you are replacing the whole works, also known as loaded backing plates, all you have to do is remove the drum, disconnect the two wires from the brakes to the magnet, unbolt the backing plate, and remove it. Installation is reverse of removal. Adjust the shoes when the drum is back on.
