I have a 2017. I read where they went with coil springs under the new Tundra. I assumed that was supposed to smooth out the ride a bit. I am not sure of any other advantages with the coils.

I think the top-of-the-line has airbags in the rear. The TFL guys talked about how smooth it was towing.

Hi chaeha, I will know how well it does tomorrow, as we head out on our first trip with this truck. It is a hilly route but I expect it to do great.

I am reading that many new Tundra owners are not getting the mileage advertised which could be due to the break in period and the negative effect on mileage. Ours has 1000kms on it now so it is still pretty new.

I would be really interested in the experience of the Tundra. I have a 2020 F150 with the ecoboost. Tows my 28’ just great. But with the individual coil springs on the rear that may smooth the ride out some. I hadn’t considered the Tundra in the past simply because we didn’t have a dealer close by. Now that we have moved there is a local dealer.

I think the stiff ride might be a result of the TRD package. It was a bit smoother with the added weight of trailer when we took it around the block the other day.

Tomorrow we are heading out for a quick camping trip and that will give us a better idea of how this combo will work.

I have been driving a Ridgeline for the last 3 years and that is super smooth so perhaps I am just feeling the difference.

When we were looking at trucks, we looked at the Tundra in 2019 but thought that the mileage with the V8 was a negative so we went with a Ridgeline. We use it for our business and our tow vehicle. The Honda is basically a car with a big trunk. It did a great job overall but lacked the power to get up hills with our little trailer.

The mileage reports on the 2022 Tundra got us interested so we hope that those will be close to what we actually get.

With a towing capacity of 11,000 lbs, it should have a suspension stiff enough to handle that so when it is empty/unloaded, it should be stiffer. I am just comparing it to the Ridgeline but I will soon forget how smooth that was as I get used to the Tundra.

Impressive MPG for any 1/2T towing a 27'AS. It is a pretty flat drive without any mountains; what was your average speed? Is the 1794 number your payload on the door sticker? Thanks for posting and welcome!

I try to maintain 65 mph but sometimes go over. took the 93, lots a hills and potholes.
1794 is the model number, it is also a hybrid which adds battery motor on starts and climbs. Payload is not great but good enough for us. No problems towing, very easy trip. Heading to San Diego in a few days looking forward to the hill climb just past Ocotillo.

We just downsized from a 40 ft Class A diesel pusher. I'm here to listen and learn about Airstreams. this is our first one.

Got the Timbrens and a level installed now, The rear suspension is firm and the front is the same before the level kit. I need to try towing to see how it feels.

The sidewalls of my tires are quite stiff as well going to "E" load rating.

I am liking it more now and looking forward to getting it dialled in with the trailer.

Watched the video on the 2022 Tundra from TFL. Was pretty impressive with 10,000 lbs. I wouldn’t be towing near that much. Sounds like the airbags would be a big plus. Anyone have them that are now towing?

65 avg mph will yield good mileage typically on most of our rigs when towing, without hills. Elephant's in the room: what is the "max payload" rating on the sticker on your drivers door say? Have you weighed your 27' "tongue weight"? Towing is not the Challange; being within spec is the concern. Can you share a pic of your sticker and if you have scale weights on your tongue also? (note my tongue weight and payload rating pics below) Thanks for sharing!

The payload of these trucks seems to start at 1,940 lbs. if you get a base model and drops when you add all the goodies. The panoramic sunroof and hybrid options hit that pretty hard.

Mine is a gasser "limited trim" and sits at 1,390 lbs. Good thing my tongue weight is only 500 lbs.

I odd part about this is the tow package seems to be available on the higher trims and those have even lower payload than mine. Seems like a swing and a miss for Toyota!

I would love to see the Tundra that has anything close to 1,900 lbs of payload.

I would even love to see somebody post a pic the yellow sticker showing anything over 1,400 lbs, because I've never seen it myself, and it is a popular topic on the Tundra forum I belong to as well.

Everybody would LOVE to see Toyota build a 3/4 ton, heavy duty truck.

I went with the SR in big part because I was concerned with payload, but was slapped with a pretty similar sticker - 1,395... Only options are Crew Max, 4x4, and tow package. I suppose those options cooould shave 500# off a 1900# starting point.

Before ordering I consulted with the dealer on part numbers for brakes, suspension, etc and they're all the same as higher trim trucks, so its not lighter duty stuff reducing my starting point on the SR either... maybe Toyota is just conservative with their numbers? Maybe any Crew Max 4x4 regardless of heated seats and panoramic roof gets the same sticker? Not sure.

Its enough for us either way, but I will have to watch our cargo weight.
