Rear Bumper leak

So what years had the lack of sealant at the bumper on the rear that are subject to wood rot?

The 1970's trailers are the most notorious for rear end floor rot and rear end separation. I am not sure whether AS started sealing up that area in the 80's and forward, or whether we don't hear so much about rear end separation after the 70's just because those trailers haven't been around long enough to rust and rot away. Any year of trailer can have floor rot and frame damage if leaks go unchecked, and it sits neglected long enough.

good luck!

Hi, I'm not sure, but I believe that Airstream didn't seal the rear bumper area until 2012?????

Our 2007 wasn't sealed, because I sealed it. That gap was wide enough for my finger to slide under it.

Hi, my trailer didn't have a problem there, but I sealed the lower molding anyway.

This is what is behind the trim , the wood floor sitting on top of the aluminum that directs water to the wood.

Left, right, and note the light showing through the floor from inside.

To cure the problem after replacing the floor I made a 90* flashing that is sealed to the body under the trim and sealed to the aluminum strip so no water can get to the wood.
