Soundbar failure, success and open ?

OK, so I tried to go with a soundbar because I like that way they sound at home. I went to the trouble to install one below my TV but unless the TV volume was fairly high there was a lot of white noise, static in the sound. This is a result of Airstream's crazy way of getting sound out of the TV. They drill a hole in the back and tap into the speaker wires.
I then realized that they install a noise filter before the signal goes to the SONY XA-300 and the head unit. So I bought an RCA noise filter and that took care of the white noise. I like the sound from the soundbar now but I need to try it on my next trip with the heat pump running.
The open question is I still cannot figure out how to have headphones connected to the TV and mute the TV speaker. Because of the AS lashup, when you mute the TV speaker, the signal coming out of the TV is dead. There is no headphone jack in the Samsung for that year. I had hoped the BT on this soundbar was output, but it is input for a music player/smart phone. Even so, that wouldn't have worked because I cannot mute the TV and get any output.

There is a headphone jack on the XA300 with a separate volume control - will that work.
Do you have the Sony DSX-S300BTX media player with the Collins IC100 subwoofer? Does your sub work with sound from the TV? My sub. only works from the radio no matter what setting I use and I am beginning to think the Sony Media Player cannot process signals to the subwoofer from the TV or DVD etc. only the radio. Can you check and see if your sub works from the TV only too? Thanks

No responsible audio technician would do that (Not saying Airstream doesn't). Speaker level is WAY higher than what components are looking for, which is line level. They may have inserted some kind of pad to reduce speaker level, but the fact you needed to supplant the device indicates they didn't do it right.

The headphone jack on the XA-300 works for me with the AS lashup only because I connected the TV out to CD1/Aux1 on the XA-300. That is because the headphone jack is only connected to Aux1 and that requires me to put the head unit on CD1, instead of CD2 as instructed by Airstream.
But, when I connected the soundbar, I had to disconnect the TV out from the XA-300 so, no more headphone jack. It isn't exactly convenient anyhow since the XA-300 is under the head unit, inaccessible until you remove the radio. I did that to run an extension headphone jack to it.
You know, I do think my sub works from the TV.

One solution would be to replace the TV with a model that has the options you need. I think the reason that Airstream added the dumb little jumper out of the back of the stock TV to work around no audio from the TV when using the existing RCA outputs. When you go to the audio menu and send sound out the analog jacks in the back the TV speakers are disabled. By adding this jumper you can have both audio output to the car stereo they added and out of the TV at the same time.

BTW if you are using the RCA outputs to your soundbar and you have an optical output from TV then you can use something like this to add headphone jack to your setup:

https://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Conver.../dp/B007KXI2R8

You will just have to adjust audio options on TV when you use your headphones.

No, AS went very cheap on this TV. It has no optical output, no RCA audio output. It has component video and RCA audio input or HDMI, which AS uses. The component in does me no good for audio out. The reason AS drills a hole and connects to the speakers is that this TV has NO AUDIO OUTPUT jacks of any kind.
I looked a couple of years ago for a TV that would fit with better connectivity and never found anything, small TVs do not have much. Maybe there is something better today.

Not sure of your layout but I just installed a 32" screen with the Bose Solo 5 soundbar in our trailer:

I just looked on youtube and pulled up a video of your model and it looks like it is pretty much the same size wise and layout to ours so what I did may work for you too.

Thanks, don't want a TV that big. I just found a TCL Roku 28 that is going to meet my needs nicely so I ordered it. It will solve the pesky audio issues, as well. It can use a TOS link for audio to my soundbar.

I have that soundbar as well and found some problems with Samsung TV remote and the soundbar.

When entering any channel with a 4, it mutes the soundbar. I just re-enter the channel and it unmutes.

When entering any channel with a 7, it powers off the soundbar. I just re-enter the channel and it powers back on.

When entering any channel with a 6, it switches to the optical input from the TV, which has no impact with me, as I am using the optical input to begin with. I found this problem when initially using the RCA input. Since this is not a toggle function, re-entering the channel does not fix this issue.

What I found interesting is when I press the mute button on the soundbar remote, it does not change the TV to channel 4. Likewise for the two other conflicts, no impact on the TV. Annoying but not fatal. Poor design on iLive part.

Thumbs down

I finally got my sound bar hooked up to my new TV and ran the heat pump. The sound bar has no more volume than the TV speakers. I guess you get what you pay for. I removed it and will install a ZVOX accuvoice. I have one of those on my TV at home and am very satisfied with it. Should get the install done on Friday.

Soundbar failure, success and open ?

I ditched all of the original sony gear in my trailer and installed a proper pioneer double DIN touch screen head unit and Polk audio after market speakers. Surround sound in the entire trailer that you can calibrate based on listening position - The quality (entertainment experience) is night and day. I also upgraded to a samsung 28" TV a while back.

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f450...de-161787.html

I like the idea of a soundbar but that limits you to good audio from only the TV. Upgrading the head unit and speakers in the trailer approach gives you outstanding audio reproduction for all sources - iPhone / Bluetooth, satellite radio, TV, DVDs, etc...

Next I'll be upgrading the powered sub with a more substantial low end output so the poor little 6" base unit doesn't have to struggle to fill out the sound profile at moderate volumes.

That is more time and money than I want to invest. I upgraded the stock speakers and that made a big enough improvement for me; we listen to very little music. I wanted the TV to be louder and easier to hear, especially with the AC running. The speaker placement is not ideal for TV watching so a sound bar makes more sense, in my world.

I need a magnifying glass to see the buttons and read the manual. it seems to never work right or easily. doesn't sound so good anymore. This is poor complicated system. any info would be good before we buy something else

You can pretty much replace the unit with any single din car unit.
