VoltMinder shows 14.78

Ive searched and found what the voltage should be when hooked to the TV. I just installed new charger and fuse block and battery. The voltminder is showing 14.78 volts when plugged in to shore power is this to much?. Robert

It is too much. The only exception would be if the charger is in desulfation mode. What type of charger or converter did you buy?

Thanks for the reply, It's a Parallax Paramode Mod#4455 with a lifeline 27 series. When I unplug shore power the voltminder shows 12.55 volts. Thanks Robert

I don't think the Paramode is supposed to put out more than 14.4 volts, even when temperature compensated. I would give the dealer a call. You don't want to be boiling the new battery.

You don't have it hooked up to the tow vehicle with the motor running, do you?

Thanks again Mark, I tested at the batt. w/a multi meter and it showed 14.81 volts. Its been plugged in 2 hrs and I unplugged I hope I did not hurt my battery. The manufacture said it was to high, I will call Randy back and hopefully get a new one on the way. Mabey I should opt for another brand. Robert

Nah, you didn't hurt the battery. You can go higher than 15V for short periods without damage.

The only damage occurs if you leave it attached for several hours and boil off enough electrolyte to expose the plates. Or it gets hot enough to warp the plates. Or you have a hydrogen explosion.

New Parallax owners take note

Let me start by saying Randy at Best converter is 1st class. I always took some things for granit whe it came to electronics because I do not know much about them. I almost didn't even by a VoltMinder but Randy talked me into it,Thankfully he did because I didn't even own a multimeter until yesterday. After a call to Best and Parallax Corp. when I told them my 4455 Parmode was putting out 12.81 volts they found out that there were more at the maufacturer that were doing the same thing. Double check yours if you have recently bought one before you fry a battery or worse. My new one is on the way. Robert

We caught it before it got out of hand and nipped it in the bud. All units at Parallax have now been checked. Yes there were a couple at the factory too and berto was directly responsible for somebody else not having to go through the exchange hassle. Thanks for the heads up!
BTW, I like those photos, nice clean install and set up.
