Berto, I have only towed the Tradewind twice. Once up to the American River from Placerville. It was steep grades narrow roads, and pretty intense for the first tow, but the Tahoe did well. The second trip was towing it down to San Diego from Sacramento area where we had it stored. That time was great we went down and up some pretty good grades, especially the Grapevine over the Tehachepis into LA. But i was real pleased.

The Tahoe has a trailer package which helps with the trany and other stuff and it has the 5700 vortec engine. Overall I think this is the smallest vehicle I would be comfortable towing the Tradewind with, and I love it. I think your suburban will be a little better with the longer wheel base and more weight.
Hope that helps give you a better idea about your Suburban.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll continue to pursue those guards now that I have seen them and know it can be done; nothing like getting an unspoken question answered. That is why I do my best to check out every possible personal gallery. I guess it is almost like getting an introduction to someone, at least their Air Stream side. Thanks again, Tim

Hello Berto, I was perusing the forum this morning and came across your gallery and noticed the rock guards on the Safari. They look really good. I have been thinking about looking into the possibility of getting something like that for my 72 Tradewind. I haven't seen them on any vintage AS except for yours. My trailer had a vinyl? bra on it when I purchased which caused corrosion on the front panels. Am seriously looking for some other protection. Did they come with your trailer when you purchased or did you put them on? Do you know where I can look for something similar? Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks, Tim Kellett
