Boiling battery

Hello all! Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

Came back from a trip, plugged into 30A plug that i had installed into my RV garage. Grabbed something to eat and came back to shut everything down and disconnect battery. It was "boiling".

What am i missing?

2017 Sport Bambi 16'

Thank you,

E.T.

Battery with low cell or cells, I would think. I think you have a bad battery.

If your battery was discharged from use while you were camping and the converter is working to re-charge the battery, off gassing (or boiling) is a normal process. That is why lead acid batteries require venting to the exterior.

If the battery is fully charged (or will not receive and hold a charge) and the converter continues to charge at a rate high, enough to continue boiling, then there is a problem either with the converter or battery, or both.

you might find this helpful. near the end it talks about off gassing

You'll get some good life from your new stock battery(s). Our friend with a new Sport just like yours switched his to an AGM battery when he added solar to the unit. That type is more carefree. We've run AGMs in our rigs since 2012, and they've made a bid difference. One of the brands many folks like is Lifeline. Linda and I will be away from home in the outback of Alaska until October 2018. I just put new Lifelines in the rig to assure us of trouble free power.
