Leak in Bathroom, Toilet I think. What to do?

Hello All,

While dealing with electrical issues and going back and forth from my A/C breaker box in the rear to my 12 volt fuse panel in the very front, I noticed this morning that my carpet in the bathroom was wet. I believe it's coming from under the toilet, but I can't tell for sure and don't know how to identify where it's coming from. I opened up the back hatch up, and nothing is physically leaking in there, but I can see the wetness coming into there from the bathroom. I have a thetford aqua magic toilet, and don't know what to do to check it. I have shut off my water supply until I get this figured out. Any and all help is welcome

You may need to pull the toilet in order to determine the cause of the leak. Easy job. Only two bolts hold the toilet in place. This may also give you a chance to check the main gasket under the unit. My unit was leaking at the initial connection between the water line and the toilet. I could feel the leak but would have never been able to see it or fix it because of the limited access. In my case, a PO used a steel threaded male extension to attach to the plastic female part on the toilet. At some point, it was over tightened and the plastic portion cracked. It must have held for a while since I only noticed the leak recently. Your leak may also be coming from the hose fittings that are found within the toilet. In my case, one supplied water during flushing and the other feed the water saver hose. Now I wish I would have taken pictures of the underside of the unit I replaced. Hope this helps a bit.

If it's a Galaxy/Starlite here is the manual. Parts are available here:

If it's the plastic piece the copper line connects to (our problem) We replaced that coupler from a hardware store. The feed line was changed to 4 or 5' stainless hose from Home Depot with the appropriate brass couplers. That took the rigid copper pipe pressure off the toilet fittings. Good luck with your repair.....

Jabreyd13,

Take a look behind the foot petal. You should be able to see it. Again, that picture would have come in so handy for you. Very similar to a house toilet bolt minus the decorative cap. Depending on hour your mounting bracket was attached will determine how easy they are to access. At the very least, you should be able to see one when you look behind the foot petal. The PDF above has a great visual of where they are located. Good luck.
