Fix pilot assbly, replace unit, or shower head instant HW?

The pilot assbly needs to be replaced on the original HW heater in my 65 Overlander--the water does heat up, but the pilot is hard to light. Is this a reasonable fix (from a safety perspective), or should the HW heater be replaced? On Ebay, I recently found a showerhead- mounted instant water heater (about $80), that heats up the water instantly at the shower head for showering. This will not supply HW to the lavatory or the kitchen sink, but it may provide a cheaper alternative and a longer hot shower. Has anyone heard of this? If this isn't a good option, should the original unit be fixed or replaced?
