Zip Dee - Center support or not?

Is there a notch or something that the center support fits in at the awning end? Am I missing a part? My support has a spring loaded end with a pin sticking out the center and I'm not sure how it should contact the roller. Looks as if it should have a half moon shaped foot or something so it could nest against the roller.

A small metal plate is installed on the roller tube, with a hole in it.

That plate should have come with a new awning.

there should be a small plate riveted to the roller. the roller must be completely unrolled.
