repairs to upper zip dee awning hold down mount.

So the rear hold down mount for the curb site awning on my 2005 classic has been showing some signs needing some love.

It has been getting harder to get the upper clamp down part and the roller head to be in correct position. I have to push the arm in towards the shell to get the hold down part in place to tighten the round part.

So i tried to tighten up the screws (3) and found out 2 of the three will not tighten so they are stripped. I took the clamp assembly off and the metal behind was ugly..

The top clamp had three screws in it and there appears to be another place to drill through for new screw.

I was going to clean the old mess up, drill out for 4th hole, put some SikaFlex 221 on back of clamp, put the screws back and put in new screw, seal around the edge of clamp with 221, let dry for 24 or more hrs before using.

has anyone done this as well?? how did you do it, what did you use and how is it holding up??

So after a day or three of rain I am getting back to this project.

Got by lowes and got some 14 3/4 SS Pan head screws to replace the 12's in there that had gotten loose and not holding good.

I did have to enlarge the existing holes and drill through the clamp to create another hole for one of the 12 screws.

Got it cleaned up and sprayed some brake cleaner on both part to make sure there was no oils, applied some 221 to back and screwed on the shell..

got some excess and just took finger to smooth out to seal it all up. Some came up through the screws a well so even better.

now to let it sit for 7 days according to tube for max strength.. Will be taking back to storage location adn will leave the arm off and not screw in to clamp..

should be fine as the front clamp is good and tight and rear travel lock in engaged.

here are more pictures.

Good work!
Larger diameter screws is what I did too.
