Awning Purchase & Install

We have just purchased our first Airstream. She is in really good condtion for her age (32 yrs.). It's a 1974 , 27 ft. Overlander model. We love everything this trailer will have to offer but one thing. She has never had an awning installed. We would like to know what size (length) will be needed and where it can ordered for a self installation.

Doubt if anyone will stock it, it's an odd size for an Airstream, 16' 11 1/4", also what color. The standard Airstream color was Blue Fancy. You can check Zip Dee's web site for a dealer near you, but shipping will be involved also. (unless you can travel to Elk Grove, Illinois) Zip dee announced a price increase effective August 1st...2 weeks to save a few dollars

I know of two Vendor members that sell awnings also:
lewster and Inland RV (Andy)
Both offer discounts and can have it shipped to you door. I would PM them for more details. BTW, Andy at Inland RV is a little low tech (no offense Andy) and does not always answer his email promptly.

Measure the length of your awning rail and that is the length of awning to order. Its that easy. It could be maybe an inch or so shorter but you'll have to check the mounting points to see where they would line up at the bottom.

Lewster ordered two awnings for me. Process was quick and easy, shipped when he said and arrived in perfect condition.

I ordered mine from a forum member, but you can order from any airstream dealer. Zip-DEE KNOWS THE correct length for your year and model, provided it was offered as an option on your year and model. A step by step install guide cne be found here:

Just a comment. When I ordered the street side window awnings for my 1984 310 Limited Motorhome, Zip Dee recommended that I get two awnings, one that extends from the front window in the living room back past the kitchen and bath windows and a small awning for the bedroom widow. The problem with this is that if the sun is hitting the MH obliquely, it very often shines right on the bedroom window while there is a patch of shape somewhere else along the side of the MH. I think I would have been better off with one long awning.
