Changing axles

‘57 SOTR with what I believe are original axles that have hubs offset from the axles by ~3”. We need more clearance for peace of mind so I’m thinking of replacing the axles with what I’d call a “straight axle” - no offset. Has anyone done this?

It's a pretty common conversion for more ground clearance.

Another thing to consider is keeping the existing axles and moving the axle to below the springs instead of above the springs. Just requires cutting off and rewelding the spring perches.
