Oven Temperature Calibration

Anyone know if there is a calibration or an adjustment that can be made so the actual oven temperature is close to the knob setting? On my Atwood range, you have to set the knob to 400 to get the oven temperature up to 350 (as measured by an oven thermometer). It gets worse from there.

I don't know if there is a calibration to do. But I will say that my home oven is about as bad.

Conspiracy theory is that is an energy star thing. Manufacturer's "tolerance" are often very wide for these readings. (Which was the case with my home oven).

You may need to just do a "spinal tap" and over shoot the setting to get the actual temperature to be what is needed. (go to 11 when you really need 10. Look on youtube if you don't get the reference to the movie This Is Spinal Tap).

Also realize that being in a high altitude may impact the heat output due to oxygen levels as well.

A $5 oven temperature thermometer will help to keep things where they need to be. Also realize that many new home ovens "beep" that they are preheated after a set amount of preheat time; having no correlation at all to the interior oven temperature. Again, measure it with an oven thermometer for best results.

That knob is your calibration. I have never had a gas range that the actual temp matched the knob. Trial and error will tell you where to set the temp for your use.

Mine's off too. Use a digital oven thermometer
