Does Magic Chef still make replacement parts?

Hi all,

Brand new to the forum and to owning an Airstream. We just bought a 1973 27' Overlander. It has the seperate International range and oven.

Does Magic Chef by any chance still mfg replacement parts? If so, does anyone know the model number for the range and over in this trailer? The owner's manual and service manual do not indicate any.

We got the range working but the hinged lift cover & top are really in rough shape. Thinking of powder coating if parts are not available. Thoughts?

Thanks! flon

Howdy and welcome to Airforums.com, flon2205! You came to the right place to ask your questions.

My trailer is about the same age as yours, and it's rough too, but what I discovered is that I could buy a nice new one for not much more than what I see powder coating prices around here.

And, I didn't check, but I can't recall ever seeing a company that stocked parts on a forty year old item...

Do you plan on posting some nice photos of your trailer?

RV Appliance in California carrys a lot of old appliance parts. I contacted them about two shelves and a freezer gasket and they had both in stock. They are expensive though, but at least you can get them- door shelves are $35 each and the freezer gasket is $45. Here is their web site:

RV Appliance Parts Specialist

Hope this helps.

Interesting, I called those guys and asked about the Magic Chef range parts, and was told that the oven valve had mercury in it, and there were no parts available

If you remove the grates & lift the cooktop part up, you'll see a small tag with the model & serial numbers.

You might want to look into what parts you get powder coated. IIRC, powder coating is a heat-based process--so high temps can mess up a good paint job. I took my stove to a powder coat shop some years ago and they refused to do it because it would get worse once it the stove heated up. I think the actual process used was a kind of enameling--and I think shops that do this kind of work are hard to find.

Range parts

I have a 1976 range with a bad thermostat and tried to find a replacement to no avail. Overall the top was poor looking so I had to make a removable top to cover it up when not in use. To me it was a distraction from all the referbing on the rest of the AS. Two days ago I dumped it out in the yard when I bought a new Majic Cheif from Camping World for $399. Granted there is less metal then the old one and it doesn't have the stainless steal cover but new is nice. Just an option if you want another choice.

Doubt you'll find the range top but the cover maybe. I picked up one on ebay a couple years ago still wrapped in plastic. We've kept it in storage and had the top and lid powder coated last summer. It came out really nice and wasn't all that expensive.
