1950's Princess Oven and hob

Hi

Going to try and test my Princess oven.
Have given it a quick clean, tested the valves and knobs using air line from my compressor at low pressure, all seems fine.

Anyone got any words of wisdom or links to any blogs showing vintage oven repair and restoration?

Had a good search through the forum but don't feel truly enlightened!

Thanks in advance

Dan

50s Princess

Dan

I just got a 50s Princess stove/oven up and running. Not sure this will be that helpful, but here's a goofy video of me lighting everything for the first time. For some reason I expected everything to go boom, so I'm all jumpy with the lighter, and it was very early in the morning.

Bessie the Bouncing Bullet: Fire Fire Fire!

If you click on the November Archive, there's a rather long post titled "The Kitchen Counter" that shows some pics of how we cleaned up the stove. Not really much to the cleaning, but you can skim the post for the before/after shots.

Happy trails!

Hey Space egg

Nice blog, love your no nonsense attitude to getting things done, get the family involved, get the job done in a weekend, nice work.

Going to have a crack at cleaning up the burners and see if we can get them as nice as your dad did them, take the oven outside, connect it up to a bottle and see how we go.

Not very good at all this picture/video taking but I'll see if I can snap a few snaps of us being "jumpy"

cheers

Thanks for the advice and links, all greatly appreciated.

We fired the old gal up today, seems to work just fine with no leeks anywhere.
The burners all work fine but one is less fierce than the others and the oven (which has never been used, it's spotless) fired up and works fine.

I have not actually cooked anything yet but very excited that it all seems good.

Thanks again and I'll get round to taking some pic's of the caravanner at some point, she's a beauty!
