Refer works on propane only
I recently had my AS, 2016 27 FB in Mexico, plugged in to shore power, the circuit breaker tripped and when reset, by others, sent low voltage to the trailer. It burned up my inverter which I replaced and is working fine but the fridge will now only work in propane mode. I replaced the controller but still works only in propane mode. The fridge is a dometic RM3762RBX. Appreciate any advice on how to get it working in both modes.

Can you check the electric heating element resistance?
It plugs into the controller. Disconnect AC power, unplug and check resistance of the heating element.

Hi
I would suggest that an EMS would be a good thing to get. They cost a lot less than replacing a bunch of stuff in the trailer .....

Thank you very much for the info, I see where someone else had this problem, you responded, but they were unfamiliar with using a multimeter. I'm going to go out and give it a try, next challenge will be finding a heating element for the RM3762RBX, my research shows they're discontinued. Thanks again for the info

Test first then make decision.
Getting a resistance reading in range for the element no need to replace. Gettin an open circuit nobody’s home reading now replace.
Many online tutorials and meters have instructions.
Want to test drive first, borrow a friends and use their experience.
Also Dometic does publish specs for element just have to pin it down in document.

Had similar problem about a month ago. Had to just keep turning the mode switch back and forth and also turning fridge on and off. Not sure which one made it finally go - but took hours (usually waited a while between cycles to determine if it was on). No problem since then. Good luck.

First the electrical fix-all: Turn off (unplug) all electrical devices. Wait 10 seconds and reconnect. Open and close all circuit breakers and fuses.
Now, repower up all electrical equipment. Turn on and set the refer mode switch to electric. After a few minutes, if the burner chamber does not feel hot on the side you need a new 120v element. They are not very expensive and are available at most any RV parts store. Be sure and check all AC and DC equipment for operation after a power fault. If it was on when the power interrupted you probably damaged it.

At the risk of sounding stupid (me, not you) did you try the glass fuse outside, behind the refrigerator?Don’t ask me how I know😠

I ordered the heating element on Amazon, received it Sunday, installed it the same day, refer is working perfect again. I will get a surge protector and will always check on air forums before randomly replacing parts. Thank you so much GCinSC2, you nailed it.

@Penasco Pete
This Diagnostic Service Manual from Dometic may be helpful next time your refrigerator acts up:

Hi Gary,
There were no outward signs of any problem with the malfunctioning heating element, I tested the new one and the old one and got a reading on the new one, no reading on the old one. Thanks again for the help, Pete
