Dometic Refrigerator Latch

Actually the freezer latch.

I have a 2018 GT with a Dometic Model 8555 fridge. It has a two finger push in latch button to open it. The latch button on the top freezer does nothing. I can open the freezer door by pushing it up and then it releases. The actual latch doesn’t not move when the button is depressed. Nor can I move manually. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Maybe check with AS or Dometic about getting a replacement latch mechanism?

Hi Bob, sorry to hear about your freezer door issue. I did a quick Google search and found the Dometic Repair Manual .

That's the page for removing the door but there's no mention of how to disassemble the freezer door itself to get to the button assembly. It sound like something in the mechanism is jammed or not connected.

You might be getting a new fridge from Airstream!

*The bedroom TV in our unit developed two horizontal lines across the screen. I emailed the dealer a photo of the screen and they opened a warranty claim with Airstream. They approved it so we're just waiting for it to arrive.

Thanks Jeff,

I contacted JC and they said it is covered under warranty and to contact the local dealer. So I sent an email to Airstream of Tampa to set up an appointment. The big Tampa RV show is this weekend so they may be very busy. They are shown as a 5 Rivet dealer so hopefully we will hear from them soon and it will be fixed or replaced.

Just to close the loop on this issue it was repaired at Airstream of Tampa. A new freezer door was ordered from Dometic and the replacement was covered under the warranty.

FWIW, the service manager at Airstream of Tampa said this is the first time he has seen this failure.

So all is well once again!
