It looks like you are really into it now. The gutting process goes quickly, the restoration slowly. Keep up the good work. Remember, everything takes twice as long, and twice as much money as you planned. LOL

Just that it's easy to miss doing that, since it isn't in your field of view when you undo the other things you need to...

yes to the furnace and yes to the water heater. Got out the water heater, the problem was a big ole glob of sealent between the inner and outer walls. I used a wonder bar to scrape it off the top of the water heater then it pulled right out.
When I removed the furnace originaly removed the cove on the out side and put it back on not seeing the two screws, when I tried to remove the furnace no movement so I took the outside vent cover off again and found the two screws, bingo came right out.

Pams plan now is to try and get the shell water tight as best we can.
One of the top crank up vents was broken and leaking when we bought, the PO had an old piece of tarp duck taped over it, we put one of those big plastic covers that go over the vents. Its just sitting on there temporarily not screwed to the vent for now. Its working keeping the rain out for now. My question is, when we put in new vents with fans are those things any good? Do any of you use them?

not sure I worded my question correctly. the fantastic fans are what I will use but my question is about the box like covers that are attached to the fan shroud.

Are the big box like covers any good and does anyone use them?

My daughter's SOB has those boxes, and she loves them. No need to close the vents in inclement weather, a real plus for her.

Well Pam and I working bit by bit on the project. Got a christmas bonus so I got me a few more tools.
I have a few pictures of the rotten floor and a few of our progress. A couple of the front window pictures of condensation in between the inside and outside glass. Whats the best way to repair the window? Take apart and re seal? Have done some searching might be the only way, other than replacing and I don't want to if at all posible.

We had a break in the rain today so I did a little bit more work. I removed the gas lines under the front belly pan, in one of the pictures you can see where the PO crushed the gas line with a jack stand. Removed the two front banana peels. Removed the front piece of angle steel from the front of the water tank bracket, the two bolts were so corroded they just broke twisting off. Hope to get the water tank removed and front belly pan removed in the next few days, weather permitting.

Progress is looking good! My '72 Trade Wind was in similar condition and dirty. Not so much neglect, just years and years of bacon grease! After I gutted down to the walls, I bleached and de-greased everything before removing the inner skins for a complete shell-off renovation. My frame just came back from the welder, having replaced the last 3 cross members and reinforcing the main rails aft of the wheels. Now it's at the sandblaster for stripping and painting. In a couple of weeks, I should be able to start the new floor (weather permitting here in Minnesota).

more progress today in the deconstruction. removed more interior panals should have cleaned them first. I made a small mistake

and cut into one of the floor frame about an inch with receprocating saw trying to get better access to the shore power cord for removal. should be easy to fix when the frame is being worked on. More pictures, I love pictures, I have taken picture of all the electrical and plumbing before removal.

OK more pictures. Pam and I spent this morning drilling holes in the subfloor to remove the E-bolts. We were able to lift one portion of wood to remove some of the insulation and check out more of the frame. It appears the frame is OK in the middle of the trailer. I did have one of the outriggers move as I removed a bolt so I think it will need replacing, I know of another one in the rear needs replacing.

I will take a look and let you know on condition. The shower pan is toast but I believe the sink and counter are in pretty good shape. Stay tuned I have to go into the basement ? big crawl space under the house to take a look will try to get some pics. you can see the sink in some of the earlier pics.

We had a break in the rainy start to winter so I thought I would look into removing the fresh water tank. I was able to remove the aluminum sheet below the plywood without much effort

. I used my floor jack to raise up the heavy piece of plywood to see if I could loosen it, it moved up no problem. So I go to lower the jack and the handle comes out

. Now what am I going to do the jack is extended and no way to get the handle back on cause it moved to the up position

. So I figure I can just pull it out by jerking on it, no way it wont budge but I notice the whole sheet has moved about an inch

. So I continue to jerk on it and It move out about four inchs. Now Pam gets some jack stands to hold the tank in posision. Great

now I'm running out of room as I am on my stomach under the trailer so Pam gets a couple straps and we go around the jack and I crawl out and we pull together, "1, 2, 3, pull" a couple jerks later and the big sheet of plywood drops out and the jack is free

Pam ordered new axles complete with new brakes and shocks

. We will be updating our progress as we do more.
I was reading a thread about what to do with the old axles and one of the last post suggested using the tube as cross members for a trailer frame. Has anyone done that here? our rear cross member needs to be replaced and I figured that might just work. I guess I can ask the guy who will be doing the welding for me. Great repurposing if it can be done.
