White Mountains (NH) campgrounds
We are traveling north to the White Mountains this summer, and looking for any campground recommendations. We have a 34' rig, FYI. Possibly in the Gorham/North Conway/Fryeburg areas. Prefer state/natl parks, but private areas are fine. Really looking more for shade and space - 3 night stay. Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

One private campground I would recommend is Saco River Camping Area in North Conway. We were there for a Vintage Club rally in 2001 and they have some nice sites down along the river.
Another one is Glen Ellis Campground in Glen, N.H. Lots of nice sites there, as well. You might want to check their pet policy, though. If I recall there are no pets.

Thanks, rgesch. I checked out the campgrounds on-line, but Glen Ellis' site wasn't up. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendations!

I agree, we have been to both of those and they are nice. GE a little more scenic, SR a little more centrally located. But they are only 20 min from each other...

I was up in North Conway last weekend, and head up that way several times/year- we love it there!

Bill, thanks - I'll check out your recommendations.
I was also just looking at another thread regarding boondocking in New England. One other option for us might be to do something in Maine. Many years ago we hiked Katahdin and paddled the Moose River.
Too many places, not enough time...

Oh God yeah...Baxter St Park in Maine is unreal, talk about wilderness. Katahdin is my favorite climb! No campers allowed as far as I know, you must tent it. I haven't been in a few years but I am told you need reservations 1 year in advance-for a tent site!
There is a private campground close to the entrance...don't know the name, maybe another NE member will chime in.
Have not done Moose river yet, but I am aware of it, and it is on the list of things to do!
Here are some more options (NH State parks are pretty nice);
NH State Parks: Campgrounds
And don't tell anyone about these;

We used Dolly Copp as a base camp last week while backpacking (tents) and also a few days up in the mountains (smaller tents). The sites at the WM NF CG's are beautiful; large, wooded, gorgeous. No hookups at most, water is available to fill your tank, and some have dump stations (see the .pdf above). But keep it a secret!
A few pix from backpacking if interested;

BillTex, thanks. Dolly Copp is on our list!
As to the Moose River, we paddled it for a three day trip for a long Columbus Day weekend years ago. You start and end at the same place, which is unusual. There are two portages, some white water, no other humans - very nice.

With your A/S..I wouldn't recommend..
COVERED BRIDGE
Kancamagus Hwy, 6 miles W of
Conway, NH
Maybe it's me but everytime I've gone by this one, I get the chills..
It's just don't seem to have the clearance under that Covered Bridge.
I do love the location of the campground ..Just that darn Covered Bridge.
Maybe someone else will chime in with a report of their own.
Best wishes and, safe traveling to you
ciao

53 FC-you are right-I believe the description for Covered bridge says no TT's (due to clearance).
Niles, do you have details of Moose river paddel? That is the trip I have been trying to put together, the route that begins/ends same spot...I have heard of it from others but don't have all the details...
Saw a 27 OL (I think?) parked just outside Bartlett NH last weekend...is that a member here?
