Tombstone, AZ

We spent our Easter week in Tombstone, AZ and the surrounding area. We enjoyed touring the town and Boot Hill and many of the locals work as "actors" to help give the feeling of the 1880's. We had fun riding in an old stagecoach and seeing the shoot out at the OK corral.

If you get a chance tour the copper mining town of Bisbee, we took the tour of the old mine by riding the old mining ore trains. It's also has a great artist colony with many great shops to see.

Kartchner Caverns was great fun since we went at sunset to tour the caverns and watched as some of their bat colony flew out at dusk. They say it gets more intense when the weather gets warmer.

The weather was spring perfect (mid 70's day / mid 50's at night). We stayed at the Tombstone RV resort. The current owner had just sold it to new owners. It's an old place and will need alot of work to make it to the level of a "resort". At least the sites had full hook ups and the pads are level. We did enjoy watching the local deer herd's (up to 30 or so) come into the park every day at dawn and again at dusk. Our Rough Coat Collie Rose enjoyed barking at them; she must have thought they we're odd looking sheep!

Our Bambi performed beautifully and made for a perfect home base for our daily excursions. One night I hosted dinner and we squeezed seven people into the AS (think a clown car at the circus)! This was our third trip out with the AS and we're very happy with our little tin can.

Next trip out will be in July to the Redwoods and Gold Beach in Oregon.

Happy Airstreaming,

Yes, it's a great way to get away and enjoy life. Glad you're going to Gold Beach, Oregon. Be sure you look into the jet boat trips. We have enjoyed the most expensive trip (three times). Be sure to dress in layers, you will get wet. You might enjoy the cat house lady. She sells cat & dog houses out on the jetty. It's a great life!

Cute li'l trailer!

We have been to Tombstone a couple of times, and really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.

We are headed to the Tombstone area in a week or so, arriving out of NM on I-10, more or less.

Has anyone stayed in the area recently? I may have missed any newer threads on Tombstone (apologies if so) but this was the latest one I could find to ask for recent info...thanks!

We were there on a day trip a few years back. As we drove in there was a campground just outside Tombstone. Suggest you try the Chamber of Commerce for its name. It's a great piece of history, make sure you stop at the Saloon on the main st as its servers in period costume along with piano player, a lot of energy!

I would recommend a visit to Tombstone to anyone who enjoys the southwest. We were not there with our trailer, so I have no comments about that. I wish we had had time to visit Bisbee..... maybe next time!

One of the best steaks I have ever had was at the Crystal Palace Saloon.

We stayed at the Tombstone Trail RV park outside of Tombstone. Nice park; the only thing I didn't like was that they charged you for your electricity use. Added about 15 minutes to our departure as we had to go through unnecessary procedures. Seems to me that if you are a short-time visitor it should be built into the rate.

Left a bad taste for an otherwise very pleasant stay.

Enjoyed Tombstone, though. If you are a westerns fan, this is a must-do.
