We spent our Easter week in Tombstone, AZ and the surrounding area. We enjoyed touring the town and Boot Hill and many of the locals work as "actors" to help give the feeling of the 1880's. We had fun riding in an old stagecoach and seeing the shoot out at the OK corral.
If you get a chance tour the copper mining town of Bisbee, we took the tour of the old mine by riding the old mining ore trains. It's also has a great artist colony with many great shops to see.
Kartchner Caverns was great fun since we went at sunset to tour the caverns and watched as some of their bat colony flew out at dusk. They say it gets more intense when the weather gets warmer.
The weather was spring perfect (mid 70's day / mid 50's at night). We stayed at the Tombstone RV resort. The current owner had just sold it to new owners. It's an old place and will need alot of work to make it to the level of a "resort". At least the sites had full hook ups and the pads are level. We did enjoy watching the local deer herd's (up to 30 or so) come into the park every day at dawn and again at dusk. Our Rough Coat Collie Rose enjoyed barking at them; she must have thought they we're odd looking sheep!
Our Bambi performed beautifully and made for a perfect home base for our daily excursions. One night I hosted dinner and we squeezed seven people into the AS (think a clown car at the circus)! This was our third trip out with the AS and we're very happy with our little tin can.
Next trip out will be in July to the Redwoods and Gold Beach in Oregon.
Happy Airstreaming,
Jack Dog
