Tennessee state parks

I’m planning a trip through Tennessee and want to stay at a couple of state parks. However, I cannot find a map of each state park’s campground with individual sites numbered so that I can select the campsite I want.

Have I overlooked something?

Any particular parks in mind?

https://tnstateparks.com/lodging/campgrounds
https://tnstateparks.com/activities/camping
https://tnstateparks.com/assets/pdf/...g_brochure.pdf
https://reserve.tnstateparks.com/

Bledsoe Creek for example:
https://reserve.tnstateparks.com/ble...reek/campsites

After you pick dates on the calendar, a map of sites opens up:

https://reserve.tnstateparks.com/ble...reek/campsites

. . . at least it does here. [Edit -- but you have to pick a window of dates to get to the map, I guess?]

Happy trails,

Peter

I think you’ll find all the spot maps on the recreation.gov app. My wife likes to pick her spot by looking at photos of each spot which the app has as well.

Thanks for the info. I could not find links on the Tennessee web site.

Our trip through Tennessee starts near Little Rock, AR, and ends on the other side of Knoxville where we are meeting another party. We can drive it in three 3+ hour drives with one-night stays or two 5+ hour drives with a single two-night stay.

We’re also looking at some of the private campgrounds and an Airstream only campground.

Yarberry Peninsula near Louden is nice, too.
Be aware that the topography of Tennessee is like an accordion, with the ridges running SW to NE. If you try to take a less major road SE, you are likely to run into some hairy driving, especially in the eastern part of the state. I mention this because you may be tempted by such a route trying to get to the Airstream park from Rt 40.

Your tip regarding eastern Tennessee roads is very helpful. We used to travel gnarly mountain passes in a Land Cruiser towing nothing. DW doesn’t want to sleep on the ground anymore, hence, the AS. It in tow is...shall we say...a more challenging driving experience.

You may also want to check out the Army Corps of Engineers sites as well. They can be found on recreation.gov.

Yes. You must pick a window of dates to see the campsites.

It’s not a state park, though check out Raccoon Mountain if you are near Chattanooga. They have a cave on-site. And Rock City is a short drive away.

recreation.gov is a federal page for National Parks;

But state parks won't be on it....

We watched the eclipse in 2017 at the Lock A COE campground. It's a smaller CG but very nice, lots of trees, right on the Cumberland river. We stayed in site #36. Site was room enough for our AS, 2 cars and a big octagonal screen enclosure with lots of room left over. There is a boat ramp in the park.

The CG is NW of Nashville, near Ashland City, TN

Thanks for those details, Rich, and the reminder of the eclipse almost 4 years ago.

. . .
Hard to let a mention of the eclipse go by IMO without a hat tip to TravlinMan who witnessed it in Ohio, and posted this remarkable photo.

Post #366 [hot link in blue] in his "Please Tell Me Where to Go" thread introduces the location, and the photo above is the attachment to Post #371.

Happy trails,

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations. We decided to spend two nights at Cedars of Lebanon instead of one night at each of two parks. The choice of the park had more to do with driving distance than anything else. However, It looks as though we will be spending more time exploring the parks of Tennessee in the future.

For another trip consider the "Land between the Lakes" a TVA project. I stayed at the main large campground, 360 sites, and it's fantastic. Hillman Ferry.
The little town at the north end has groceries and a few services.
The grocery has the absolute best potato salad I've ever eaten. Must be home made.
Here I am in C-5 (as I recall)
There were lots of roads leading to dispersed camping, but they looked more suitable for a jeep than an Airstream.

Yes. We’re staying at Land Between the Lakes on the return trip. We’ll look for that potato salad.
