Nor Cal Redwoods / Gold Beach

Our next trip out in the tin can is to the Redwoods in Nor Cal and then up the road to Gold Beach in Oregon.

Question:

We have reservations at a place called "The Avenue of the Giants" RV park in Red Crest, CA and at a place called "Ireland's" RV park in Gold Beach.

Has anyone stayed at these either one of these places and can you give me your personal experience?

Thanks,

Jack Dog

Jack,
I live in Eureka, near the Avenue of the Giants. Although we have never stayed at that RV park, the AoG is really neat, and Red Crest is in the middle of it. I would think you will enjoy the AoG! I think however that Prairie Creek State Park (2 more hours north of Red Crest) is probably a nicer overall place to stay, but it has a 24 foot limit in trailers.

As you head north from Red Crest toward Gold Beach, the town of Ferndale (45 minutes north or Red Crest) is worth a visit. It's about 5 miles west off 101. It is a Victorian old dairy town and a good place for lunch.

As you go through Eureka on 101, there is a fantastic Old Town to the west of 101. Turn left on F Street off 101 and go 4 blocks. If you go down to 2nd Street and then left, there is a long curb where you can park a trailer rig.

Gold Beach is pretty nice. Keep in mind it will most likely be 65F no matter when you go. Dress warm! I haven't stayed at Ireland's, but GB is very nice for a day or two visit. The Rogue River Bridge at GB is gorgeous.
GB is nice, but 1 hour farther north is Bandon, which we find more enjoyable than in GB because there is a little more to do.

I hope you enjoy your trip. It's beautiful country up here. It will be hot in Red Crest in the summer, but as you go north and get to Fortuna it will cool way off and remain cool (65F) all the way up 101 through the Oregon coast. Be sure to bring warm clothes.

Jack Dog...

I agree with mstephens. Especially the part about Gold Beach being on the chilly side. We live in Bandon and would recommend taking the added time to get there. If you decide to do that, we have a guest house where you can park the Sport. Water and electric hookup and a real shower.

Nor Cal / Oregon Trip

Rapa Nui / Mstephens:

Thank you so much for the information and the gracious offer to stay at your place.

I'll be traveling with other family members and their trailers and they had set the itenerary ahead of time. They never stay anywhere without full hook ups where as I'm a big state and national parks guy.

We'll be in Redcrest the nights of July 5, 6, 7 and 8 and at Gold Beach the nights of July 9, 10 and 11.

Stop by for visit if you have time.

Thanks,

Michael...

Sorry you can't make it, but I understand the full-hookup desire. We're pretty much the same. The offer is always open if you're traveling solo.

If we can break away, we'd like to make a quick trip down to Gold Beach and catch up with you guys.

Have fun in the tin can.

Best,

Art and Stephanie
