Fremont Lake CG near Pinedale WY
Has anyone here spent any time at Fremont Lake CG in Bridger-Teton NF, near Pinedale WY? We’ve reserved a site for a week in July. The campsite pic looks completely shaded (our preference) but the lake looks like it’s high desert. We are not looking for a base to travel from, but more of a destination to kayak, hike, and bike right there. Just as soon not get in the truck for a week.
Appreciate any feedback. Also, it says fresh water available, just wondering if it’s a old fashioned hand pump, or a spigot? 7,300 ft. Looking for cooler weather than the heat and humidity of Missouri.
Thanks,
Jeff

Consider New Fork Lakes near Cora, WY
We’ve camped at New Fork Lakes Campground (just north of Fremont Lake) and enjoyed it immensely. Trees, trails, and a refreshingly cold lake. Good fishing, too.

We have frequented New Fork just north of there. Beautiful area, Pinedale has a nice grocery/hardware/sporting goods/liquor store just as you enter town. Across the street is a office for the state's outdoor authority, they can inspect your watercraft and sell you the required sticker.
The New Fork CG is rough and tight, we only drove thru once. We use the free BLM area to dry camp so I'm not much help on amenities.

We love New Fork Lake CG. We’ve camped at the narrows many times. One of our favorite places. I’ve just got a small window to go, and all the sites in the narrows are booked.
So, we are looking at Fremont Lake. I’m also thinking about boondocking along the green river below the entrance to the lake. Some neat looking sites along the River. But my lovely wife doesn’t want the whole trip to be about fishing.

Thank you! Pinedale is a nice town. We’ve always enjoyed it. We are hoping to spend a fair amount of time kayaking and hiking right where we are camped.
I’ll report back here what I think about Fremont Lake.
Thx

We stayed at the Fremont Lake CG last year in June - site 44. Very nice, quiet although the campsites are right on the road that circles through the campground. Some sites are in the trees while ours was more open with a view of the lake. Water spigots have been covered. Trash bins are available. I don't remember a dump station. Beautiful country.

We usually stop for a night just north of Pinedale, a USFS campground called Warren Bridge. It has water spigots and a dump station. Right on 191.

Fremont Lake CG
We were just there last week. It is a very large lake so kayaking is very wind-dependant. No hiking right there but great hiking within 30 min drive up Skyline Drive (check AllTrails app). We took our small raft to New Fork Lake and paddled there. Not far. It was a beautiful campground with no facilities, just a water spigot and outhouses, but it was all paved and kept nicely. My hubs fished the pier there. We had a spot right on the lake which was stunning. We dumped 30 miles north at Warren Bridge in Daniel, WY.

Fremont Lake is great and CGs are basic but nice. Skyline Drive is fantastic and lots to see and do in the area. Enjoy!

Thanks all! We’ve probably spent five vacations at New Fork Lake. We just fell in love with that area. Moose in camp. Great fishing, and canoeing. Great hiking. But mostly it was just so peaceful. The only disturbance happened when the Boy Scouts paddled through every few days. And that was a pleasant disturbance. I was a scout as were my two sons.
The brookie pictured above by Atomic_13 sure brings back memories.
My older son and I had paddled across the lake and were working our way up New Fork creek. Catching a brookie on every cast with the fly rod. We came upon a incredibly fresh cat track along the creek. It had just been made. I was all about catching more fish, but my son said, “Dad, the hair on my arms is standing up.” “That cat is still looking at us.” I didn’t want to push him, so we left. Must have been close to 20 yrs ago. He’s got three kids of his own now. It was right before the cat print he told me, “Now I understand why you like this so much” (fly fishing).
Happy Fathers Day to all you Dads out there. Thanks again for all the replies. We will fill fresh water tank before we get to camp. Hard to use the filter when you can’t hook up a hose.

Welcome to Wyoming! You will find quiet, beautiful and wonderful spots while camping in the Pinedale area! Pinedale has a brand new dump & water station just inside of town that is easy to pull in and out of for all of your needs. Enjoy your stay!

Thanks! We will be looking for it!
We are thinking of heading to New Fork Lake and seeing if we can’t get into a first come first serve spot, and use the Fremont Lake campsite as a back up if we can’t get into the Narrows CG. It’s just such a long drive on washboard gravel to see if a site is available...

Here is a link to the land use map for the area;
https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE...eprd500963.pdf
Zooming in you can see the New Fork detail, all of the roads with dots allow dispersed camping.
Lots of places to just park and enjoy the views.

Well, I wanted to follow up on Fremont Lake CG near Pinedale WY. We ended up not staying there our site could not accommodate our 25FB. We were supposed to be in site #6. I’m not sure a Basecamp would work in it. Pretty overgrown. Could not open door or windows. Lots of sites there are wide open, full sun. That’s not our favorite. We actually saw no other sites available. Fremont is very close to Pinedale. Almost too close for us.
We visited the dump station in Pinedale ($15 to empty tanks). It’s extra $$ to get fresh water, we tried, but the system wasn’t working. We opted once again for New Fork Lake, the Narrows CG. Lots of sites available as first come first serve. Went for site #12 (I think) I’ll attach a pic. It is great up there, but very primitive. Two pit toilets, no host, no water, very little Forest Service presence. The gravel road from 191 back to the campground has really been improved and is easily traveled. The roads, once you get in the campground are another story. Where every road in Fremont has recently been blacktopped, there isn’t a road in New Fork that’s seen a grader in many years. Very deep holes, and washes. Parts of the road need to be pulled at walking speed, or you may lose plumbing.
The lake, and trails are still great. Our campsite was very nice, but tight. I couldn’t extend the awning all the way. There are 3 or 4 sites though that would handle a 30 footer, if you could get it in. Many tight turns and hills in the CG. I wouldn’t make this a first stop for a first time camper. Bear boxes have been added since we were there, I assume for a reason. Some site maintenance would be helpful. Some sites are a little overgrown. A few could use a cleanup from sloppy campers. Lots of Wyoming plates in there, and a few from Utah.
We really like it because we like shade, views, rustic, and doing things (hiking, biking, kayaking, and fishing) right around camp. Hopefully we will get back there.
We aren’t the most social couple in an AS, but did meet lots of friendly folks up there.
Edit, our English Setter, Kate had the time of her life. 70 degree temps during the day, 40s at night. I prefer to run furnace vs AC. Great campfire weather.
