Correction: Macon GA to Titusville FL: I-75 or I-95?

We'll be traveling on Monday February 26th with our Airstream. Our 80+ year old friends in a large motorhome will be traveling with us. Should we take I-75 from Atlanta straight into Florida or take I-16 from Macon over to I-95 and down?

I just want to get an idea of road and driving conditions so our friends can handle it smoothly. Time is not as important as safe driving.

Thanks.

Whenever we travel to the east coast of fl, we always go down I75 and cross over at I10 to I95. Depending on the time of day, there will be traffic in Atlanta, and Jacksonville. Remember to take the bypass in Macon. Another reason not to take I16. It is a very boring drive. There are few exits, so make sure your tank is close to full before you leave Macon. Thats my opinion. I prefer the I-75 / I-10 route.

Yup, my vote is for I-75 to I-10 then I - 95. I travel this exact route about 5 times a year. Tried other options and unless there is a Hurricane coming the 75, 10, 95 route is the easiest, fastest and safest option. Lots of exits if you need to rest, lots of gas options and most of it is now 3 lanes in either direction. Please remember to take the Macon Bypass and absolutely know where the Jacksonville Bypass is. Traveling from Atlanta to Titusville is doable in one day but NOT when towing so plan on a two day trip. Recommend Eagles Roost RV just south of Valdosta, Ga. I think it’s Lake City, GA (not to be confused with Lake City, Fl.
If you are going to TGO in Titusville, IM me. Safe travels.

The issue with I-75 is having to go thru Atlanta. Since you leave from there, problem solved. It is 3 lanes all the way to the turnpike, and then it is 2 lanes till Orlando. I-95 is 3 lanes from north Georgia border all the way to miami, but I can't see taking 10 to Jax just to get to 95. Both routes will be busy, and turnpike is smooth drive to State rd. 50. Be sure to check for any launches while in Titusville. I just watched the Falcon heavy launch on tv and it was great! I saw all shuttle launches up to challenger and they are cool. Do the space center and walk on the footsteps of your childhood hero's. Have a great time

I support the I-75, Turnpike, 408 and Hwy 50 route. It'll be a more relaxed drive than the I-10/I-95 route. The tolls are worth the experience.

I have lived in FL for over 40 years. I was once a fan of the turnpike but lately I prefer to avoid it. Most of it is only two lanes and an accident will close them both.

That said, right now there is construction between I-10 and I-95 however you go through Jacksonville. I prefer 295 to taking I-10 into town and then heading south on 95. The construction on 95 south of town is pretty rough when towing.

If you like the "blue highways" you could take 16 over to 441 just south of Dublin and then pick up US-1. US-1 in South Georgia/North Florida is four-lane divided for the most part and virtually devoid of traffic. It will be slower, but so much more relaxing. When coming from North Georgia back to Florida we prefer to take 441. It will dump you onto I-295 west of Jacksonville.

This is a good option.

Just for the record ... I hate I-95!

Macon to Titusville

I live in Saint Augustine FL. I don't mind 10 until you get near Jax. Once you get within striking distance of 295 the traffic starts to get heavy (regardless of the time of day) and if it's anywhere around rush hour forget it. We have to navigate that EVERY time we do a trip that is NW of us. We get to/from the St A area as follows:

I 75 to 10 East to 41 south to Lake City, to 100 East to Starke, FL. At this point we would take 16 East, but going to Titusville you can stay on 100 to Bunnell. At that point you can continue south on 1 or go over to 95. 95 at that point to Titusville will have negligible traffic on it and will be a non event. 100 is a lovely road, 2 lanes but the traffic ( or lack thereof) moves right along. Scenic and non eventful. Perhaps 15-30 minutes longer. Mostly w/o traffic lights, 55 mph limit except in more urban areas, but they are sparse.

This seems like a lot of Navigation, but experience has proven it is a much safer, calmer and tranquil ride than 10 to 95 near JAX. As I said, we do it whenever we're returning from a NW trip. I have tried both ways at multiple times during the day and this is the only way I'll do that corner of FL. If I'm in a situation that I have to go north from S. Augustine and I have no choice then I'll do the 295 loop around JAX.

Thanks

Thanks to all who have given your thoughts. We may go the Blue Highway route for peace of mind. I especially appreciate the warnings about Jax. We leave Sunday and should be in Titusville by Tuesday the 27th. Sunshine here we come!
