Campgrounds around Nashville

My wife and I are heading to Colorado from NJ in a few weeks and want to stop in Nashville for a few days and see the sights. Anyone have any recommendations for a good place to stay while we are there? We want to see the museum and see a few shows at the Grand Ole Opry.

You may also want to camp a night or two at Fall Creek Falls State park to the east of Nashville. Also, if you are comming over on I 40 there is a bunch of neat stuff in the Crossville TN area.

If you are looking for caamping, Falls Creek Falls is a good choice. However, if you are looking to be close to the Opry and Nashville, there are a number of campsites on Music Valley Drive. They are a bit expensive but offer all of the ammeneties and are close by. There are a number of Army Corps campgrounds that are close by that are open all year long as well. Do not miss the Country Music Hall of Fame. Even if you are not a country music fan it is a wonderful collection. The Frist Museum usually has a good exhibit as well. and do not forget to have some of Jack's Barbecue and visit the Honky Tonks on Broadway.

I would recommend Seven Points Campground at Percy Priest Lake (615.889.5198). It is a Corps of Engineer site; they discount 50% if you have a Senior Pass. This will get you on the waterfront for $12 -- my personal favorite is site #11. You can stay up to 14 days. I like it so much that when my husband and I pick up our 2006 International next week that we're going there for our for our "first trip out". Just retired --first travel trailer, first Airstream, we're definitely happy campers!

Larry, If you like German food go to the Gerst Haus Resturant, 301 Woodland St. they have been there over 100 years. A great place.

I'll second the Gerst Haus. I was eating at their origional location when I was a student at Vanderbilt in the early '70's. I was there a couple of years ago and the food was every bit as good as I remember. The beef stroganoff is fantastic also.

Can't help with campground suggestions - sorry.

Anytime I go to Nashville (business, not camping) I try to spend time in the West End (near Vanderbilt University and Music Row). For restaurants (in the West End) there are two - each very different. One is called the Midtown Cafe (19th Ave S). Pricy - but unbelievably good. Call ahead - reservations usually needed. The other recommendation is the South Street Restaurant - 20th St. S - also in the West End. Very low key, casual, but a regular haunt for regulars - in a good way.

Obviously music is the word in Nashville. Two recommendations: If you like bluegrass, check out the Station Inn (402 12th Ave S). You won't think you're going to a good place, but it is awesome - low key, but great bluegrass. A "must" is Tootsie's, right downtown. Always music, no cover, just tip the band.
