Big Sur mudslide and Yosemite road conditions
A new mudslide covered a quarter mile of Highway 1 yesterday under 40 feet of rubble. If you're planning on driving through Big Sur on Highway 1 anytime soon, you're going to have to re-route.
On another note, my wife spent the last few days in Yosemite, and reports that closure of one of the main roads into the park, highway 120, for the season, has made all the roads into or out of Yosemite more congested than usual, so allow extra hours for that. Whether related or not, she also reports that traffic in the Valley itself was unbelievably congested when she arrived there on Sunday. She could find no place to park within walking distance of the office where she needed to get her backcountry trail pass, and when she did find a place to park, the first 3 shuttle buses that came by were completely full.
